Have you tried talking to your sat nav, using the voice activation system? Other than that you could find a place that is close too where you are going to get you there and then ask someone, I know that defeats the object of the satnav, but Aus is not exactly a small place, Right, The only other thing i can suggest is too contact tomtom.com/support

Was just given a TomTom and car adappter to use on my trip from MI to MD. I've never used a GPS and no manual was included how to program it from start to final destination

The TomTom only needs for you to enter your destination address. Once that's in, you're ready to go. Along your route you can tap the center of the screen to find POINTS OF INTEREST such as FOOD, LODGING, etc...but will retain destination info 'til either cleared or changed to new destination.

To enter your destination, tap center of screen. There you choose house address, business address or city's center. If you choose street address screen opens to:keyboard. Type in destination State, ie; Maryland. Once you've typed state, hit DONE in bottom right corner. The screen then goes to CITY. Type in destination city then hit done again. Follow the same steps for STREET NAME & HOUSE #. Click DONE & CONTINUE as prompted. TomTom will then target your location and you're ready to hit the road. It will show you your distance and time (ETA). It will also show you the speed limit where you are and the actual speed you are going.

When you pull over for gas, food, lodging, shopping, sight-seeing or whatever, it will automatically account for this and will continuously update your coordinates to get you back to the highway/road you need to be on. And when you're ready to come back to MI all you have to do is hit the home icon and it will automatically map your trip back.(Home is - or should be - set to the home address of the owner of the GPS).

All-in-All it is user friendly and very simple to use.

If you need additional info, please don't hesitate to ask.

I hope this info was helpful to you. Good Luck!
Have a great trip and drive safely. :-)

You can use the latest 'Tomtom Home' to purchase and download the AUSTRALIA map for your GO 700.
SYDNEY is included as well all major cities (ADELAIDE, BRISBANE, CANBERRA, DARWIN, MELBOURNE, PERTH, ETC...) and 99+ % of all Australian roads.
Hope it helps.

I would like to just use my tomtom just to see the road names

Under the change preferences general menu, use the right arrow to go to the 4th page (4/8) and tap the Street Name preferences. Then put a check mark in the boxes Show Street names, Show next Street name, and Show current name on map.
Press Done, twice.
As some menu options may be hidden, the Street name preferences option may be on some other page..

How do I use coordinates? I entered map coordinates and it took us to the wrong place.

Some Tomtoms can use latitude and longitude coordinates. They refer, of course, to points on the map.
To use coordinates on some tomtoms you tap the Browse Map option. A general Map of the route is displayed. The screen has three buttons at the bottom
  1. Options
  2. Find
  3. an icon for the point on the map.
  4. Done
Tap the Options button: The Map detail Preferences appears, offering the choice to put a check mark in POI, Favorites, images. At the bottom of screen you have 3 buttons : POI, Advanced, Done.

Tap Advanced: In thsi screen you can put a checl mar on Names, Markers, and Coordinates.
Put a Check mark on Coordinates and press Done, Then Done again until you exit all those options.

Now your tomtom is configured to display coordinates. Be aware that GPS technology was created for military purposes and its civilian uses cannot be expected to offer pin point accuracy. It took an act of the US president to allow its use for civilian localization.

When you plan a route you can use longitude and latitude. Here is the icon you should like for.

Go to the town but not the adress in country.

You need to enter the name of the town first and touch the name of the town at the top when you see it.

You need to enter the name of the road or street next and touch the name of the street at the top when you see it displayed.

It will then ask you for the house number and Ok
