White lines across tv screen

Without seeing the lines I can't be sure what your set has wrong, but here are a some possibilities:

If the lines are lines are confined to the top inch or two of the screen and the picture looks otherwise normal, the trouble is bad capacitors in the vertical output circuit. Fixable by replacing the bad parts.

If diagonal lines are across the entire face of the picture tube and the picture looks washed out, the trouble is often a bad capacitor on the 200-volt line to the picture tube. This may be on the main circuit board near the horizontal output transformer, or on the small circuit board plugged onto the end of the picture tube. Again, replacing the bad capacitor can fix this.

If your TV is actually an RCA, someone may have bumped a rear-panel adjustment. On the back of the TV near the bottom right are two small knobs. RCA left these adjustments exposed inside of putting them inside the set like other manufacturers. These sometimes get bumped if someone was behind the set cleaning, or if a pet got back there and hit them with a tail. The top knob adjusts focus, and the bottom knob adjusts something called G2 or screen voltage. If this gets turned up too high it can cause the faded picture and diagonal white lines. Turn the adjustment down until a black screen looks black instead of gray.

A bad picture tube or horizontal output transformer can also cause lines through the picture. If this is the case with your set, it's time for a new TV. The transformer is relatively inexpensive but labor costs aren't, and the repair bill may exceed $200. If the tube is bad, there's no point even considering repair. The tube cost alone exceeds the cost of new TV.

Hopefully your lines are easy and cheap to fix. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

What can i do if tv's lamp no good?

This T.V. doesn't use a lamp. If you're referring to the picture tube, there is no fixing this other than making slim adjustments on the knobs on the flyback. Don't tweak it too much or it will cause retrace lines. However, in most cases a bad picture tube means its time for a new T.V.

While watching our set, after a few minutes, the picture on the screen condenses into a single line. You can stil hear the sound. Is the tube shot?

I would look for bad (cracked ring around pins) solder connections at the vertical output IC. Do not let play long with the line present or it will burn a trace across the face of the picture tube and you will never get it out.

My CRT TV displays a single horizontal white line across the screen. It will flicker and try to display the picture. If you smack it you'll get a quick picture then back to a line. After about 10-15...

The single line means that the vertical deflection doesn't work. And since it is working when you kick the tv or has warmed it's clearly a bad connection - open the case and reseat the wires going to the tube coil.

The TV will work for a while and then the picture will get lines in it and then the tv will shut itself off.

This Is IK shutdown, this may be from a bad picture tube going bad, or excessive high voltage, If the screen turns a certain color right before shut down then thats the tube going bad, It will either be RED/GRN/BLU screen right before shutdown, the lines are scan lines. If a tube needs replacing then it might be hard to get as CRT manufactures are not making many any more. You can contact http://www.VDC.com for used or remanufactured one.

Picture on RCA TV shrinks to a horizontal line

Hello,
Sounds to me you have a cold solder joint ( loose solder connection ) on the printer circuit board around or on the vertical chip or on one of the vertical capacitors. You may also have a bad vertical chip or a bad vertical capacitor, but I doubt it since it did come and go. I'de get a soldering iron and some solder and touch up the connections. I will remind you that you need to always excersise saftey by making sure, before removing the back, unplug the TV from the wall, and use care not to come in contact with the large red wire going to the back of the picture tube as the picture tube can be turned off and still store lots of voltage ( up to 35,000 volts). Always stay safe and when soldering, use care not to run solder across places that will make a short.
Good Luck and I hope this helps

Tv does not turn on

You does not mean about picture clarity before this problem occurs. Former the picture clarity is well and good means picture is not problem. There is a problem in horizontal deflection area.May be flyback transformer failure shows these type of problem. This service should be done by technical persons only.

Isolate filament voltage from CRT,i.e. unplug Crt socket from pix tube.Measure filament voltage on CRT PCB.If present, suspect bad pix tube.If missing, solder any/all connects in filament circuit, meaning CRT board first then main PCB.
