Possible solution:
Make sure air intake that cools transformer and mag tube is free of dust clog. I looked at a friends, who complained his was not heating as well as it should. I found a lot of lint like material clogging the air intake. After I cleaned it he claims it works as well as it ever did. The top was very hot while running before cleaning too. Now it gets food hot, and the cabinet gets only slightly warm to the touch.

Normally if the microwave appears to work but does not heat it will be the magnetron. There could be other parts that go bad but the mag is normally the prob. I would not suggest replacing this on your own as it is dangerous - get a qualified tech.

If the microwave has no power (nothing on display) then more than likely it will be a fuse. The one that I am referring to is normally found on the left top side and will have 2 black wires going to it. The fuse should have continuity - if it doesn't then it is not allowing the circuit to be completed thus the unit seems dead.

Good luck!

Food not getting heated

There are three common issues, magnetron "heats food" cracked high voltage diode, or a shorted high voltage capacitor. In order to find out you will need a professional to assess, it will be probably cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

My smeg microwave will not heat the food ...... possible causes

If everything else is working but it won't heat the food, the causes are the magnetron "common failure" or the high voltage capacitor and diode can be a factor, the three work together to heat the food. Depending on the nature of repair it can be close to the cost of a new microwave oven.

Microwave has works but doesn't heat

Sounds like the Magnetron has stopped working. The Magnetron is is a specially designed powerful magnet that generates the high frequency microwave energy used to heat food.

Microwave sedems to be working but not heating

Chances are the problem is a loose connection on the magnetron, a bad high voltage diode, or a bad diode.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

MICROWAVE NOT HEATING

I have the same problem. Everything seems to work except it doesn't heat up food.
I remember last time when it was working. I pressed the start botton before I closed the door. So it didn't start automatically, and I pushed start and it worked(it still heat up the food), but it doesn't work now. Help Please!!!
I have a Whirlpool Gold GH5184XPQ.

Thanks in advance

Microwave sedems to be working but not heating

This is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
