Same thing going on with me. I haven't noticed anything that helps except that it seems to work better when the battery's not at full charge.

Exact same issue...brand new camera. Bought a second battery when I bought the camera and I get message with both. I called Sony and they want me to send it to them to get repaired. Not happy at all with Sony or this camera.

the same problem. message appears every time the camera is turned on... has been going on for a week now

Well the only solution that worked for my camera was to buy a new battery...now all has been fine...I have a feeling that it was the charger that screwed up the original battery. I had lost ithe charger and bought a knockoff from ebay for $10, it worked fine for the first few times then my son put in the battery backwards and the rest is history....

F***ing frustrating!! My battery was FINE until I charged it. :(

  • Anonymous Oct 17, 2008

ME TOO! bought it from a random cheap site on ebay.. put it in backwards..ugh

  • shuffleover Feb 03, 2009

    Me too. (DSC T77)
I bought an Energizer battery ($60 instead of the Sony $100),
charged it - worked fine for about 30 sec. then, "For use with compatible battery only" - I could take one picture though before it shut down.
I think Sony has put some special characteristic into their brand of battery and programmed the camera only to work with batteries that have this "special" (read: proprietary booby-trap) characteristic.
    - Any ideas (other than sending the camera back) ?

  • juliepd76 May 18, 2009

My battery is the original one...I used it successfully in the morning, charged it, took it to a party and for the exact same message: "For use with compatible battery only."

I love my camera and want this problem solved!

I got the same problem, i went to sony service care and they told me that you have to change the battery be cause it has been damaged.
and the problem still hanged and no one know the reason, but 70% it happened cause of the charger ... don't ever plug your battery in the charger too much time. my cam is DSC-W35 ... for me .. no sony any more :(

I've heard of this issue with more than one Sony (seems like there was a post in the forum not long ago with the same issue...). If you've bought a new battery, the problem would appear to be in the camera's power controller. With that in mind, I'm afraid you'll have to decide if the cost of repair is worth it, rather than simply putting the money toward a new camera.

Problem now solved. I switched the camera on and off a few times and took several test photos. After a few minutes the problem resolved itself. I suspect the cause was condensation, but cannot be sure.

Hello, I purchased a finepix s5700 about 18 months ago. It has worked perfectly until the last few weeks. I can turn the camera on if I hold the playback button and switch on the power, and can scroll...

Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, it may be time for new batteries, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.

Camera will not turn on.

Check the manual for indications of error. Look for a reset to factory settings option. Switch off and remove batteries Take the memory card out and carefully cleane the contacts, now wrap a piece of paper atround the card in such a way that you have a frip on the paper an insert it and work it up and down thus polishing the chamber contacts. No joy? Contact Fuji Technical help team.

Camera won't turn ON

First off, everything was not fine until this morning. You had this occur a month ago. Frankly, I would have done exactly as you did a month ago and nothing more. I have seen too many electrical problems permanently solved by turning a device off and then on, or by rebooting. Here is what I would generally recommend: 1. See what the camera manual suggests. 2. Charge the batteries fully before using them. New ones are often not charged up. They could have been in a warehouse for months. 3. The electrical contacts on your camera, the ones that interface with the batteries, may be a little corroded. If you can access them easily, try cleaning them with the eraser on the end of a pencil. Same with the batteries themselves. 4. If exposed to prolonged high humidity, electrical problems may include not only the power supply, but other electrical switches, such as the reset button., which you cannot address on your own. 5. Call Sony.
