If this happened while playing music at a little higher volume, you must check the speakers for short in coils. disconnect the speakers to see if the protect condition changes, if so check the speakers and wiring. If not then you must have blown up the output IC or a power shorting within the set. You will have to remove the pcb disconnect the power to the output IC to confirm the fault. Helpful I hope.
