Try taking out the CD/DVD ROM out along with the battery. Then try to reboot. If it still does the same thing, unplug laptop turn it upside down and remove the small backing where the RAM is located. Take one out and plug in and start. If it starts that's great, but now do the other RAM card. If it doesn't start now you know it's a bad RAM card. But if that works it could be that one needed to be re seated.

I have a Dell D600 (PP05L), its not powering up no lights. I noticed on the power adapter the green light goes out when plugged into ac power. What could be wrong here? please help

Hook up your power adaptor to ac power without it being hooked up to the laptop and see if the green light stays on. If it does then you know your adaptor is okay. if your adaptor is only hooked up to ac power and the green light still turns off then you know your ac adaptor is bad.

Take out the battery from your laptop. Now hook up the ac adaptor to the laptop and if it stays green then you know your battery is bad but you also want to make sure you can get your laptop to turn on. Hopefully it will turn on with only the ac adaptor hooked up to it.

Laptop crashes shortly after boot, power light rapidly blinks red.

Its late, so just to make sure I'm not brain-dead basically your laptop runs fine as long as its powered by the AC adaptor but dies fairly quickly while running via battery. This is very typical of a battery that will no longer hold a charge, not normally a user repairable item. It could also be that the charging electronics (in the laptop) isn't charging the battery, again not a typical user repair job. About your only option short of taking it to the repair shop is buying or borrowing a battery as a test.
