O found this on a blog just now. what do you make of it?

[FIXED] Kenmore 665 17772990/ Major leaky door

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi.

The bottom of my door is leaking badly.

about a cup every 10 seconds. It only really leaks when the washing cycles gets into gear, but you can see a bit of water before. It just started without warning. One day it was fine, the next, bang. I've looked at the interior panel of the door, there does not seem to be any seals. Is this model strangely built or did a seal vanish over night or am I simply clueless?

    Thanks for helping me out.

    ------------------

    Fixed.

the seal for my pump was loose, a screw had fallen out and another one was about to follow

It sounds like the drain hose may have a break in it. Use a Phillips screwdriver or a 1/4" nut driver and remove the lower toe panel that sits back and low to the ground in front. With that panel off fill the dishwasher then push cancel and see where the water is coming from. Let me know which hose it is and I can get you a part number if you wish

There is not a water tight seal there, if it not coming out during the fill or wash part and only the drain cycle I am a bit at a loss of what is causing this, I will do some research here and see what I can find.

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

I am not finding anything on leaks from the door area while draining.

I am strongly suspecting something below there is spraying water onto the back side of the door and it is flowing on the floor.

It could be the drain pump, the drain hose or main pump. the picture here shows those components it is a view from below looking up. the top of this picture would be the front of your unit.

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

I would say yes to pulling it out if you cannot see the problem with it in.

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

Yes if you cannot see the leak from the front you will need to determine where the leak is from, pulling it out should give you that view

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

    Is the water really soapy?

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

Okay, you have an interesting problem here. I cant think of what might be causing the water to come from the machine inside while draining, I will look around here and see if anyone else can help

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

What is your complete model number? It should be on the rim just inside the door

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

There should be a tag with a model number on it, I will need the number to pull up any bulletins on it. The tag should be on the tub side near the door rim

  • Philip Apr 25, 2010

This can happen during the wash but should not during the drain but it is worth a shot.

Look closely at the lower spray arm ends, you are looking for splits that would cause water to come out rather than the holes,

Look at the pump top just below the lower spray arm and check to see if the top of it is loose at all or any of the screws missing.

Why would a whirlpool duet sport model number WFW8300SW05 starts fine stops during cycle. No error codes door locked red light on water in machine.

you have a plugged or partial plugged drain pump for sure. maybe there is a 20 stuck in it this time! easy to find just follow the drain hose back and you will find your pump.
also could be the cycle your using has a bad area in timing cct. check a different cycle like the delicate cycle and that will confirm pump or cycle

Water is pouring out the bottom of the machine

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.

Ok, after a year, I've figured out the problem. I changed a bunch of parts, but never until now figured out that what it is doing is, water is running out the hole behind the door, where the overflow...

It could be as simple as the float switch inside the wash tub. Usually they are located just inside the bottom front edge of the dishwasher. Some of these are loose and others are enclosed inside another cover.

You may have to remove a cover to get at the float. Basically, the float is designed to float up when enough water has flowed into the dishwasher. Sometimes thou, gunk can get built up inside the bottom of the float and cause it be heavier than it should be, which causes the float (water level) switch to not shut off the water until too much water has been drawn into the dishwasher.

If a good cleaning of the float doesn't solve the problem, you can get at the float switch by removing the front lower access panel and reposition the switch to cause the water to shut off sooner.

Another problem could be that the dishwasher isn't level and the front is set lower than the rear and that is causing erratic operation of the float and causing the water to leak out the front. Check to make sure the dishwasher is properly level front to back and side to side.

Lastly, check the drain hose to be certain that is doesn't have any obstructions as any partial blockage could be preventing a complete pump out of the water in the tub, since many discharge cycles (pump out) are timer based and don't actually know if all the water has been pumped out before the next cycle starts adding in fresh water, etc.

Check the entire drain hose from the dishwasher to the air break (if you have one at the sink top) to the drain tap either on a disposal (could have partial blockage inside the drain port on the disposal) or the drain fitting that ties into the sink drain, etc. Check everything to make sure it isn't clogged or blocked anywhere along the drain path.

Sometimes it's the simple things that cause appliances to not function properly. Without you model number, I couldn't pull up the drawing to check what type of water level float your unit has, etc., so I provided you with generic solutions to try out.

Hope this helps, best regards!

Water pouring out of bottom during drain cycle. Hoses are secure

hi there,

your problem is most likely the front panel itself. can you see if the water is coming from the front? this is quite a simple machine and there isn't many places the water would come from other then the hoses or the front panel under the door.

DISHWASHER IS LEAKING A LOT OF WATER

I had the same problem with my machine - ie lots of water coming out front about two thirds of the way through the cycle - engineer (local and very reliable) knew as soon as he came in that I had started bying Powerball 5 dishwasher tablets - they produce too much foam (try opening the door during the cycle and see the amount of foam) and it therefore comes out of the overflow parts on the door. I tried Magnum 5 and got the same problem. Now I stick to either Asda's own basic (not the 5) or I buy the Magnum ones and cut them in half. Has never leaked since!
