Sounds like the unit no recognizing the door is closed, due to either a bad light/door switch or a defective latch assy, is the oven light going out when door is closed??? and depending on model do you have to manually lock the door?? (there would be a handle atop the door if so)

How do i turn on the self cleaning device.

make sure the oven door closes fully, nothing preventing it from closing. Some brands want you to remove the racks from the inside of the oven before it will activate the cleaning cycle. once door is completely closed, select the self clean cycle and press start. if you have a lock that you manually have to lock (older style of ovens), you will have to lock it before it will enter into the self cleaning mode. most of the time, if there is an issue before you try to enter the cleaning mode, it should tell you on the display,...i.e...remove racks, lock door, etc. good luck. look for me on 6ya if you need more detailed help.

Need self-cleaning instructions....missing manual.

To Self-Clean: 1. Close the oven door. 2. Move the door lock lever to the right to the locked position. 3. Press CLEAN. 4. Press the "up" or "down" arrow pad. CL-M (Clean - Medium soil, 3 hours) appears in the display. If the door is not closed, beeps will sound and "door" will appear in the display until the door is closed and the Clean pad is pressed again. If the door is not closed within 45 seconds, the self-cleaning operation will be canceled and the display will return to the time of day. If more than 5 seconds elapse between pressing the Clean pad and the "up" or "down" arrow pad, the program will automatically return to the previous display
5. To choose a clean setting other then Medium, press the "up" or "down" arrow pads to scroll through the self-cleaning settings. CL-H (Clean - Heavy soil, 4 hours) CL-M (Clean - Medium soil, 3 hours) CL-L (Clean - Light soil, 2 hours) Choosing a cleaning level automatically programs the selfcleaning time. 6. After 4 seconds, the oven will start cleaning. "LOCK" and "CLEAN" will appear in the display. The cleaning time will count down in the display. To Delay Start Self-Clean: Before delay starting Self-Clean, make sure the door is closed completely or it will not lock and the cycle will not begin. 1. Press DELAY. "DELAY" will flash and "00:00" will appear in the display. 2. Press the "up" or "down" arrow pads to enter the amount of time you want to delay the cycle. Delay time can be set from 10 minutes (00:10) to 11 hours and 59 minutes (11:59). 3. While "DELAY" is flashing, press the CLEAN pad. "CLEAN" will flash in the display. 4. Press the "up" or "down" arrow pad. CL-M (Clean - Medium soil, 3 hours) appears in the display. After 4 seconds, "CLEAN," "DELAY," and "LOCK" will appear in the display to show that the oven is set for a delayed clean operation. The delay time is displayed

Self cleaning instructions

If the model number is correct, the self-cleaning instructions are as follows:

1. Make sure oven door is closed and press "CLEAN".

2. "REMOVE RACKS" should be displayed. Remove all oven racks to avoid damaging them.

3. Select "CONTINUE" using the Quickset pads on either side of the control panel.

4. Set LIGHT soil level by entering "200" using the number pads for 2 hours cleaning. Select MEDIUM for 3 hours. Select HEAVY for 4 hours.

5. "CLEAN", "TIME", "LOCKED" and the cleaning time countdown will be displayed while the oven is cleaning.

6. "OVEN COOLING" will appear when the cleaning time is complete, but the oven door will remain locked until it is safe to open. (approx. one hour after cleaning cycle ends).

These instructions are almost verbatim on page 23 of your owner/operator's manual. If you no longer have a manual, you can go to managemylife.com and enter your model number under the "Manuals" link. Your owner and installation manuals are listed in a .pdf (Adobe) format that you can download or print for FREE.

If you have any questions, or if your model number is different, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My oven door is open but the panel is flashing "LOCKED"...

Pull the plug, wait 5 minutes and plug it back in. Don't touch anything! First check to make sure the door closes. If it does you are ready to set the self cleaning mode.

there is a broil stop integral to the hinges but shouldn't be the problem. make sure the little swinging stops used to remove the door assembly are rotated up and are in the "stowed" position.

The door latched Micro-switch is not working or is dirty.
Remove the back panel, in the middle of the back there will be a metal arm that moves in and out when self cleaning latch is closed and opened. This arm pushes two or more Micro-Switches in the back, they are dirty or not working and need replacing.

Oven door won't unlock

I fixed the automatic oven door lock on my oven. While the door was open, I pushed the button on the upper left hand side a couple of times (the one that senses when the door is closed.) Then I was going to call the repairman when the door closed! I had to run the self clean cycle again to get the lock light to go off, but it worked!

Self clean inoperative

Dear Superglide, An error code "F5 E1" means "door latch not operating". In such situation I would recomend to replace the oven lock assy (part # 9782611 ) which is located on the back panel. If you are going to do it yourself - DO NOT forget to unplug the power cord first. About service manual - try to call Kitchen Aid directly.
