Question about EliteGroup PT800CE-A Motherboard

1 Answer

I have a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P motherboard it was working for about 8 months. Set it on highest level of CPU throttling but the last three months my girlfriend was playing The Sims 3 with the expansion pack which is a heavy work load on the unit. Then i get home last after partying and she tell me that it crashed. So I tested it. All it dose is turn on no beeps, black screen and wont turn off with the HD light flashing on and off? So I removed the PSU and tested it in a another PC and powers on,works fine. The 2 Ram sticks have being swapped in different slots, I have removed the battery and reset the CMOS. I think I need a new motherboard because the power switch is set up fine but wont turn off so it can talk to the power supply and the only thing between it is the motherboard. The cables are connected correctly to the motherboard. The last upgrade i did was two weeks before it died and it was a due power slots Sata 250gbs hard drive with both IDE and Sata power slots. I did use both at the same time. One to the hard drive form the power supply [SATA] and the IDE to an extra fan. The only other thing is i didn't have a power surge protector :[

My raid keeps failing and I've had both hard drives thoroughly tested by a reoutable pc repair (overclocker uk) and they say the drives are fine. When I start the pc one moment its ok then next thing it...

My guess is that the RAID adapter (either a separate add-in PCI card, or integrated into the motherboard) is intermittently failing.

Either replace that add-in card, or replace (under warranty???) the motherboard.

I built a new computer recently, but the motherboard did not have any integrated graphics. So I added a graphics card, and now it refuses to turn on. The power LED turns on for a split second and then back...

sounds like the CPU or ram are at fault. double check the fitting of each make sure the fitting of the heatsink hasn't damaged the chip. If using more than one Ram stick take one out and then swap them round.
what did you do before to fix the problem? was it a short? check everything is as it should be.
reset the bios using the jumper if there is one.

Having replaced my PSU, I now have a new problem. In games or scrolling in IE8, there is a loud buzzing noise coming from the CPU area. What could be done? I'm not sure if it's the CPU or the Northbridge,...

Electrostatic interference may also be the cause, for some reason, I'm not exactly sure of, there are PC's that emit this high-pitch squeal or noise when doing certain tasks on the PC, usually this can be tracked down to the sound system in the machine, but sometimes is not.

Also, some motherboards come with a safety feature that can cause the noise, it's called a voltage regulator, these can sometimes go bad, and while they may still function properly, the circuitry can emit these noises as over or under voltage is being rectified as it is passed through them. I have 3 servers here that used to do it untill i replaced the module, on a desktop motherboard, these are usually built into the motherboard circuitry and cannot be replaced.

I am using a single SATA II Drive in a new system, GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P, AMD 790X & SB750 chipsets. I know I can let the SATA II be a "Native IDE" but isn't that loosing any benefit of the SATA II...

The "Native IDE" mode causes the motherboard to "report" to the Operating System that the installed SATA drive is an IDE drive, rather than reporting "no IDE drives installed", and then requiring the Operating System to load a SATA device-driver to interface with the SATA drive.

Using RAID to "mirror" your hard-drive is a very-cool way to provide a "real-time" and "up-to-date" backup.

Should one of your drives suddenly "die", the other will continue to work, and you can buy another hard-drive, re-establish the "mirroring", and continue to work productively -- no fiddling with offline/stale backups.

I havea GA-MA790X-UD4P AMD 790X; GbE; PhnII;DDR2 1333+; ATI FireX

It will support DDR2, of 1066 (backward compatible) and up to 16GB. If you put in two sticks, be sure they match in speed to get the best performance. It's also dual channel, so matching size will also be a good thing.
