Alert chipset heat sink not detected system halted dell xps 420

Sounds like your heatsink which is inside the computer and sits on top of the CPU is bad. There will probably be a fan that sits on top of the heatsink.

Look on ebay and purchase one for your system.

I found a new one below on ebay for $14.95 (the link is below)

I have a dell 1545, I open up the computer and turn it on and the on/off light comes on I hear the fan start up, dvd drive starts and stops.....the screen is black and now the only thing on is the on/off...

1. if you have a new hardware recently added ,remove that hardware to make sure it is not the cause of your issue. If after removing the new hardware your computer works it's likely the computer is either not compatible with the new hardware or a system setting needs to be changed to work with the new hardware device.
2. Make sure all fans are running in the computer. If a fan has failed (especially the heat sink fan for the CPU) your computer could be overheating or detecting the fan failure causing the computer not to boot.
3.check all the connections.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530. Was getting 2 quick beeps on start up and loud fan noise. I replaced the cpu fan but the one I bought did not have the right plug for the motherboard connection. I had to modify...

This model (as well as many other Dell desktops) has a DUAL SPEED CPU fan. If the motherboard detects that the CPU temp is running hot it will increase the speed of the CPU fan to lower the temp of the CPU. You should do a Google search for the correct CPU fan and purchase it and install it back into your computer.

Dell Inspiron 2200; Win XP pro; detect router but no connect

Have you change settings on your router? if not try to disconnect and reconnect your dell computer. if still not working. turn off both laptop, turn off the router and modem. wait for 10-20 seconds then turn on the modem first, and if the modem is stable, turn on the router, and if it is stable, turn on the dell computer and try to connect. If still fails, try to delete wireless profile adn recreate it. If still fails, check device manger if there is a problem in your wireless driver. If still cannot connect, perform system restore.

Computer won't run

You may just have a fan not spinning fast enough to cool the CPU. Turn off the PC. Open the left side cover and look at the CPU fan and see if it is full of dust. You may have to move the green covers out of the way. Get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the fan. Hopefully the CPU hasn't completely overheated and failed.
Good luck.

Computer has shut down and can not re-start

The Dell 8300 does not use industry standard parts. You need Dell specific parts in order to replace the fan. Here is a link to a replacement fan shroud assembly for your Dimension: http://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=845
You may be able to find cheaper if you do a Goggle search and dig deeper. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
