The beep is a code to tell you what is wrong. POST - Power on Self Test. You can serach the web for more detail as well. Usually memory has popped loose or a connection is not seated fully.

The POST beep error code is a series of long or short beeps. What is the pattern in the 18 second period before it repeats? Is it one long beep? Or is is something like long - long - long - short - short - long?

Installing new motherboard, processor, mem, and video adapter. Powers on but no post.

If the beep is a very high pitched tone, turn off the computer. Your CPU is overheating. The thermal paste may not be spread correctly on the CPU or the heat sink isn't properly installed.

Otherwise, it's probably a memory error. This machine takes 2 GB of memory as 2 single GB memory sticks. Try booting the machine with only one DIMM installed. Try each stick individually before getting replacement memory.

I hope this helps.

I recently turned on my hp 6500 f desktop computer and it gave like a 15 sec beep and stops for 10 sec and keeps doing itcontiniously don't know muchabout computers need help

The motherboard is detecting some "fault":
* RAM not properly "seated" in its socket
* video-card not properly "seated" in its socket
* "bad" RAM (that is not working correctly)
* overheating (fans inside the case no longer working)

Take your computer to a qualified technician, at any computer-store, for professional diagnosis & repair.

My pc won't boot..I get very long beep, pause long

Try resetting the motherboard, by either removing the battery or changing jumpers on the motherboard. If this doesn't work, then motherboard is going bad.

Computer beep problem

Try taking out all RAM modules and reseating them again, as it appears that one may not be slotted correctly. Be sure not to touch any of the Gold leads with your fingers, and of course make sure the power is off, the plug is removed, and then press the power button for 10 secs. to drain and charge in the board before proceeding.

Step 1 : Turn off the system by pressing the power button for 5 - 10 sec until the power LED is off. Removed all cables including the power cable (Exclude monitor cable and KeyBoard/Mouse).

High pitch sqealing noise

This is caused be a bad record switch. As a temporary solution, incert a blank tape, push the record switch, then stop. Repeat about 10 times. This may clean the contacts of the record/Play switch but it will probably need to be replaced.
