Most times when you see this message it means your computer can not see you hard drive when booting. I am having same problem and i my case is mo mother board has issues with SATA ports. You can try to replace hard drive cable and also try testing it in another computer. other than mother board this can be also hard drive it self. Test in another pc to determine is it or not. If no other pc by a docking station or hard drive enclosure and use it as usb external drive and see can you access it.you can use any computer even your friends. Hope this helps.

I have an Vista running Acer Aspire t180 desktop that i bought in 2008. i would like to restore it to its factory settings but i have misplaced the restore disks and Alt-F10 does not work. My eRecovery was...

Your options are either go to Acer for a replacement Vista recovery DVD or
Install a borrowed Vista DVD, must be same Vista Basic, Home Premium,
then use your registered CD key, normally located on the side or rear of your tower.
It will also tell which Vista type you have. You then must go to the Acer support site
and install then drivers for the componenets in you computer.
You will not have any other software installed that may have come with your
original setup from Acer. This option requires more work on your part, but
no cost to you. Acer will charge for a Recovery DVD, plus S&H.

WILL not resetting to factory settings

You will need to burn a Recovery CD / DVD set from the icon located on the desktop/ In your Acer Home Start utility (The window loading at startup) or from the Start Menu.

Using this disk you will be able to do a System Restore back to original factory setup.

Reformating

You need to have a windows vista dvd or a recovery/restore cd from Acer. CD-less installation will only work if your computer has a restore image which should be installed in the factory. I dont think acer dekstops have that though.

Just call Acer and ask for a vista dvd or see if you know someone who owns a computer which came with the same version of vista and borrow their dvd.
