The problem most likely would be the seal for the pump has gone out and water has gotten into the motor bearings. In this case the best repair is to replace the sump assembly with the motor. The part runs about 150.00.
The other cause could be something has gotten caught in the sump that is too hard for the 'chopper' to cut up, this does not hurt anything other than to make noise, it may eventually flush down the drain, or you can disassemble the pump and clean it out.
