    Hi Robotek

The reason I contacted you is to find a way to unlock the player, I have also done the research and come up with nothing apart from what your previous advisor sent me which is next to useless as I don't own a palm and the manual of course does not tell you how to unlock the regions I really would appreciate some proper help Debbie

Hi Debbie. As you may know, this regionalization of dvd's was put in place by the industry to prevent pirating.

The regions are broken down as follow:

Region 1 - The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
Region 5 - Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia
Region 6 - China

That said, it is possible to rip and burn your dvd to make it play on your player but the procedure is a wee bit laborious and technical. If you want to pursue that route call a few local computer repair shops and have a techie assist you. Joe

Hi Debbie,
The reason this is happening is because you player is setup for strictly one region only. This relates to the distribution system used for release of DVD to the world market. This is for various reasons, but mostly to allow for the Movie moguls to have different release dates about the world for new movies. Your player will be coded for the country in which you purchased it. I am not sure what country you are in, but you can find the area code from here. Whilst it is not strictly illegal to modify your player to play another(usually 0 = ALL) codes, it is what we call a Hack. Now if you are into Hacking your player, there is generally someone in the world that knows how to do it, or for a price will give you the information to do it. I searched briefly for this information for you,. but came up empty handed for your particular model. Being a new model, it may be a while before someone comes up with it. In some instances, a Sony Service agent may be able to do the hack for you to recode the players area, but this you would need to speak to them about. If you want me to keep looking for a hack, let me know. Happy to keep talking to you about it. regards robotek

Hi again, just read your comments, you need the machine hacked to be Zone 0(zero) to play all codes. I suggest you contact a Sony Authorised agent in your area to see of they are able to do this for you. Hacks from unknown sources, can sometimes be a bad thing for your player.

    regards

Go to the following website and follow the instructions on how to hack your player to play all regions for all time:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sony-dvp-ns718h/10137

If that is more than you want to do your manual will tell you how to change your player to Region 2. Most players will allow you to do this at least 2-3 times.

Sorry to take so long in getting back to you but I had to get a hold of a couple of my Sony experts to see exactly what was going on with your particular unit. After doing my own research it looked like the news was not going to be good but I wanted to verify it with them before passing on the information.

The DVP-NS718H was not manufactured as a unit that can change region codes as many other players are. In the manual, near the back, there is a table of codes that allow you to change languages, but that is only for DVD's that are programmed as either the region the player was manufactured for, or for a DVD that is labeled as all regions. Unfortunately if you have a DVD that is encoded for any other region the only thing that can be done is the hack I had sent you the URL link for. That hack is the only one in existence so far that will rid the player of it's region protection. There are other ways to send the information to the player that other people have had success with, but these other ways entail using cell phones, universal remotes, or other units. You have to have the right type of equipment, then load specific software that allows that equipment to act like a specific piece of hardware. You then send specific information to the player using that hardware. The problem is that there is no guarantee that anything other the Palm unit will be able to reprogram the DVP-NS718H.

If you are comfortable with getting into a relatively complex hacking procedure with your player, or if you know someone who could help you out, I can send you the links to the different sites you will need to go to to put all of the information together, get a hold of the correct hardware, and then go about reprogramming your player. The real issue with this though is that if you don't already own either a Palm unit, or one of the specific cell phones or remote controls that you need. it doesn't make a lot of financial sense to spend the extra money buying that hardware. Frankly it would be less expensive in the end to go out and buy a DVD unit that would either allow you to change it's region with the built in software, or to buy one one of the DVD players that are far easier to hack the region code using just the remote supplied.

Please let me know if you want to go ahead and attempt the programming and I will send you the links. Again, sorry for taking awhile getting back to you but I wanted to make sure I had all of the information I needed to pass on to you.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My husband has just fitted a new dvd player in our 2003 Discovery 2,But it is saying invalid region. He bought the dvd from Ebay & I was sent from the USA.Do we need some sort of reset code??

DVD players designed for the US are set for Region 1 and cannot be used with DVD's that are from other regions such as Great Britain and most of Europe which use Region 2 DVD's . What you need is a "Region Free" player which plays all regions or a player that plays your specific region. We live in the US but watch many British DVD series so use.a Region Free player as they are Region 2 and we are in Region 1.

maybe you can return the player or at least get some sort of credit for it towards the correct region player. If you are unsure of your region, just Google it.

What formate does a dvd movie have to be in to play on this dvd player i have a few at home and they wornt play in this dvd player but play in another one ok so i know its not the dvd player can you please...

Its not about the format, but about region. For example discs bought in the US(region 1) cannot be played in players bought in UK(region 2). To ensure that this does not happen please buy only discs of your region or region 4(all regions).

Our Sony DVD player will not playimported DVDs from the UStates

1) those DVDs are coded in Region 1(Canada, United States; U.S. territories; Bermuda)
you will have to change the region code on the dvd-rom to region 1

2) if you bought the stand alone DVD player in the U.S. it will play region 1 dvds and nothing else(some dvd players will play region code 1-6)

3) to change the code in windows vista you'll have to go under the drive property's in the device manager go to the dvd region tab and set it to what ever the number on the back of the dvd is WARNING you only get 4 changes before the drive locks you out permanently then your stuck with what ever number you put in on the 4th try you've been warned

windows xp/2000/98/me
you'll have to change the region code from your software player again your limited on how many times you can change the region code before you have to reinstall the dvd player software

Philips 7" DVD portable player

The PET702 will be a region 5 machine, whereas the UK DVDs are region 2.

DVD players from a particular region are designed to play only DVDs from the same region, due to copyright and distribution rights in each country or region.

However the PET702 can have the region protection removed by making it multi-region:

Switch on the PET702 and Open the tray.

Press SETUP button on the remote control, which will bring up the menu.

Highlight "PREFERENCES" and press OK.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [2], [5], [2], [3], [1], [5], [LEFT], [DOWN]

The screen will show: "Region Code: 2"
Press [1-6] to manually set the region OR [0] for multi-region.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [SETUP] to exit winksmiley.gif

You will now be able to play DVDs from anywhere in the world.

This is particularly useful, because region 1 DVDs from the US often come out when the movies are still in the cinemas over here. Region 1 DVDs can be bought perfectly legally by mail order or from the internet.
