Question about Amana ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Found ice accumulation in top/roof area Amana bottom freezer/frig

We keep our Amana Bottom Freezer Refrigerator in an uninsulated storage house off the car port.

Went to get something from the freezer today and discovered an accumulation of ice just inside of the door, on the top/roof toe the bottom freezer? Both the Frig and Freezer were running seemingly "normal". While removing the ice, the Frig & Freezer stopped running...lights are on and electrical outlets are fine.

Any idea what the problem may be?

Many thanks.

When you removed the ice were you careful not to damage any of the housings that allow the coolant to circulate through the appliance. I just hope you didn't accidentaly puncture a cooling line and depleted all of your coolant that would cause the unit to shut down permanently! Just a question, so please don't be offended. It has happened to many people I know that tried to defrost freezers and such with a knife and turned the unit into instant trash! Good Luck!

Ice or moisture on the inside especially near the door indicates that air is coming into the box. It would most likely be from the door not being closed all the way last time you entered it, there may have been a package or something caught in the door seal to allow a small amount of air and that air condensates inside. I would guess that the unit went into an automatic defrost cycle, let it be for about an hour and return to see if it is running again. My guess is it will be back to normal, but let me know either way

My amana bottom freezer was doing that. The fix is to replace the defroster coil and thermostat. Relatively easy just be careful defrosting you can melt the plastic with a hair dryer.

Freezer is working fine, but frig is warm,

Look for the return vent near the bottom probably behind the crisper. You'll have to remove it to see the vent. There may be an adjustable flap in to to adjust the meat keeper area. Make sure it's open.

Freezer is building up frost and refrigerator is not cold enoough

Almost certainly, you have a leak within the freezer compartment.

The cooling system will use a divertor valve to concentrate coolant to the fridge or freezer compartment - whichever is necessary to maintain selected temperatures.

If a seal within either compartment is compromised and leaks then the coolant will be excessively diverted to that area in an attempt to lower it's temperature - the other section will suffer since more coolant is diverted to the weaker area; the weaker area that is being excessively cooled will also have more moist air circulating, hence moisture will contribute to a build up of ice - exacerbating the problem.

Ensure that both fridge and freezer doors are closing properly, if they appear to be secure then also check that the seals are airtight - there should be no ice accumulating around them.

You might need to re-align the doors, or less likely, replace the door seals.

Please reply if you require further clarification or help.

NO ICE IN MY BOTTOMFREEZER AMANA REFRIGERATOR

If we both are on the correct subject then it is possible the water control valve on back of refrigerator is not working. If ice tray is dry then fill with water from a cup and let freeze. If the ice maker dumps the ice let me know and we will go from there. Sea Breeze

either you ice maker is overflowing,(not likely but possible) or you have a clog in your drain behind hte rear cover, not allowing defrost water to drain away in to the pan under refrig instead flowing to bottom of freezer area. rempove the rear cover and thawe all ice, especially near the middle of hte aluminum oan yull find a clogged/frozen drain tube

Freezer on bottom cold but frig is warm

Just additional clues..(general). The defrost timers (on non-electronic) usually located at the bottom (underneath), have a tendency to fail. (One of mine is in the center, one was on the left side) There are usually about 5 wires connected to it. If it fails while defrosting.. the fridge will warm quickly and stop cooling, if it fails in cooling mode, you will have the icing up problem. (other) A squealing noise is usually a fan motor. -also- (Freon issues)..as freon is lost from a small leak, first the freezer will actually get colder, but the refrigerator section may be too warm (I know it sound stupid). When enough is lost the compressor will get hot and the fridge will not cool.

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
