This message means that the BIOS is unable to find a drive with an Operating System to boot from.

Typically this means that the IDE cable that connects from the motherboard to the Hard Drive is not connected

It may also mean that there is no power cable plugged into the Hard Drive.

Check those first.

SOURCE: OptiPlex GX150 series. Diskette Drive

Sounds like a hard drive failure. It is fairly easy to purchase a new hard drive and put it in, but then you must have the software to re-install everything. If you are a bit concerned about doing these things, take your PC to a PC Repair shop and they will install a new hard drive and put a new operating system on it. Depending on how old the Desktop is, you may want to buy a new PC as the old motherboard may fail on you in the next 6-months to a year. Check your gut on this.

If both of the hard drives are on the same data cable/disk drive controller it is unlikely that both the have failed. Reseat the data cable connectors on the hard drives and at the motherboard.
Reboot you computer and hopefully it will boot up.
Check the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drives.
If not the disk drive controller on the motherboard may be faulty.

What is the cause of our hard drive constantly making a high pitched humming sound. Dell Optiplex GX150 Pentium 3, 996 mhz, 512 mb

That is likely the sound of a hard drive getting ready to have a mechanical crash from which there is practically no recovery. If I were you, I'd backup everything important off of your drive and don't forget your favorites from your browsers, email if you use email that's not web-based, photos, docs etc and back up your importand info to disks or an external removable drive, and prepare for an impending demise of that drive- especially in light of how old that computer is if that's the original hard drive. Think of it like the sqweak that disk breaks make to warn you that they're almost gone. Better back that drive up soon. I wouldn't wait as it could crash at at any time. Once you've backed up all your filse run scan disk and do a defrag, and virus scan and you'll know better what the situaqtion is with that drive

I have an optiplex gx150 pIII, with a floppy drive. I downloaded the set up floppy so I could do a new install. after running the floppy disk, the messages says hit enter to continue. I place the xp sp2...

You don't need the install floppy... hit the F12 key when booting and you will get a boot order selection and tell it to boot to the CD. If it still doesn't see the HDD then you are most likely having a disk read problem with your hard drive. If that is the case you should boot into the system BIOS and see if the HDD is recognized there.

When i start my computer it says press f1 to

This means your hard drive has either failed or is disconnected.

Given the age of the computer it's most likely the drive has failed.

Let me know if there is important data saved on the computer. Otherwise, replace the drive and re-install windows and it should work again.

Doesn't see hard drive

Try to Go to Disk Management by right clicking My Computer, click Manage.

From the left panel, expand Storage and Click Disk Management.

Do you see your new harddrive from there? If it is a new hard drive, right click and Format it and assign a new drive letter afterwards.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Dell optiplex gx150 cd drive won't boot

Hmmm--when you went into the BIOS setup, your first boot device should be CD. The next your hard drive. The other boot devices should be set to disabled. Now if you have a third boot device as a network device, then your computer is not seeing the CD or the Hard drive--you have a problem. If all the drives are hooked up properly (sounds like you have that covered) then your motherboard is probably the problem.
I would try to disconnect all your stuff except the CD. Try it on the first IDE channel (set it either as cable select or master). If that fails, try it on the other channel. Do you have a second CD to swap out?
Still no boot? Bad motherboard.

Primary Drive 0 is not found when I boot my computer

First things first use teh arrow keys for left and right to select auto for the primary drive. If when you reboot and the drive is not seen then double check if the hard drive is set to master you can see the jumper settings and how they should be set on the top of the drive itself. Then check the power if the drive feels like its vibrating then its ok. After that turn on the computer. If after that the drive is still not detected then you might have to consider that the drive is defective and i would suggest you try another drive and see if it is detected.

Kindly reply back for additional questions.
