Upgrading RAM Memory

I have purchased two 1Gig RAM Memory Boards. I have been searching for instructions for the correct dismantling of the case to access the slot locations. Have been told to just "pop-the-top". Need a bit more detailed instructions than that I suspect. Please advise. Have serviced large industrial applications in second generation computers.

As the other person said, thes a few little doors on the bottom of your notebook, They usually have a little screw holding them shut, undo them and it should slide off.

There should be one for your memory, one for your wireless card if it came with one. You have to have the right memory first, but other than that, just put them in the way they fit, they usually have a notch that keeps you from putting it in the wrong way.

RAM is low, my diagnostic suggests I upgrading my RAM for better performance. How do I do this?

RAM or memory is a physical component that needs to be installed in your laptop/notebook.

If you are technical enough to do this, you just need to purchase the exact memory module compatible for your laptop and install it yourself. Or, it will be better if you can have a local technician from a local computer shop install it yourself to make sure that it's installed correctly.

How to upgrade memory. I need module definition for 1Gig so I can purchase it.

You need a 512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SO-DIMM for a laptop (200-pin). The manufacturer I think doesn't specifically support anything over 512MB. But the RAM is standard and I doubt there is any need to buy it directly from Sharp. The laptop only has one upgradable bay so you may not be able to upgrade past 1.25 GB.

One of the memory covers is not removable, if I remember correctly, that is the one under the keyboard. So the one you update is a panel on the bottom.

I need to install new ram on a compaq nx 5000 but do not know how to correctly do this. Do you have a ''how to guide to dismantle this machine please

You dont need to dismantle it at all. Either there is a cover underneath the notebook which is held on by a few screws which simply needs to be removed and new memory put in (ensuring an antistatic wristband is used) or in some cases removal of the keyboard may be required as the memory is sometimes put under there.

You will need to ensure the correct memory type is sourced and fitted.

    Upgrading System Memory
You can expand memory by installing memory expansion boards.
Installation is performed easily by lifting the computer keyboard
and inserting the memory expansion board. To order a memory
expansion board, contact your Compaq authorized reseller. Refer
to the instruction card that comes with the option kit for
    installation procedures.
IMPORTANT: If you upgrade memory, the computer increases the
Hibernation file size to accommodate the additional memory.
When the Hibernation files increases, it requires more hard disk

Once you read this section and you know what your ram sticks are labeled you can go to e-bay and type it into the search and it will show you all for sale. I buy all my ram on e-bay. It's the cheapest place to by it. Just make sure you buy it from someone on e-bay that has quite a few feedback, this means they have been doing business on e-bay for some time.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can do anything else for you.

You have purchased the wrong type of memory or one of the memory sticks are bad.
Try inserting just one at a time.
If the same problem, re-install the orig. memory and replace the purchased memory.

    Memory upgrade

The memory should be DDR II Ram. To find how much ram you have simply click on Start then right click on "My Computer" and click properties. Chances are you have 512 ram. It will tell you in the lower right hand side along with your processer and windows version. Once you have found out how much ram you have, turn off your computer flip it upside down and pull out the battery. Then you should see a cover with one or two screws in it that measures about 3 inch by 4 inch. Remove the screws and take the cover off. This is where your memory goes. If there is 512 memory in your computer you will either have 1 512 memory stick or 2 256 sitcks. Remember that any time you upgrade memory it is best to take out the old memory and replace with either one stick of higher ram or two of equal ram. Never mis a 512 and a 256 or 512 and 1gig ect. Take the ram stick/sticks out and bring them down to the store with you just so as to get the correct memory. Also, remember when you replace the memory, if you are just upgrading to one 1gig stick to put it in the A DIMM slot. This is the primary ram slot.
