Tiller runs at full throddle and tines continue to turn. Unable to lower throddle. What do I do?

Sounds like the throttle cable is sticking or the carburetor butterfly is sticking.
Squirt some WD-40 into the cable that attaches to the throttle handle and onto the mechanism the cable hooks to at the carburetor. Carefully actuate the throttle and see if the mechanism is moving smoothly. It may need several squirts and some actuation before it become free.

How to hook up governor spring and throttle linkage on a briggs and stratton 8hp

From the governor 'vane', on end with a small hole in it is for one end of the spring........the other end of the spring goes to the throttle arm on the carb. YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT SPRING WITH THE PROPER LENGTH AND TENSION!!!

1987 jr50 throttle cable to carbuator

On top of the carburator is a round cap where the cable passes through, un-screw it, remove the spring underneath, along with the piston/needle assembly. Thread the cable through the cap and then the spring, compress the spring by hand and pull the cable slack through. The top of the piston has 2 holes side by side, one larger than the other, with a narrow groove connecting the two together, thread the cable end into the larger hole and while holding it with one hand, use the other to slide the cable through the narrow groove connecting the 2 holes so the cable end is now under the smaller hole.

Garden Way "Speedy Hoe" with

The throttle cable does not connect to the carburator. The round end of the cable pushes on the throttle plate arm. The cable is spring loaded and returns when you let off the throttle. The throttle plate arm on the carb is connected to the governor- the plastic vane that fits in the slot in the engine top cowl and sticks up into the cowl- by a spring. The air that is moved by the fan on top of the engine pushes on the governor and brings the engine speed down when you let off the throttle on the handle.

Belt will not tighten when tines are engaged

There should be a spring on the other end of the engagement cable connected to the take up (idler) pulley. It sounds like it have broken or came off. You will need to removed the side cover and inspect. After you have the cover off, pull the engaging bar and watch the take up pulley for correct operation.

Have hooked spring at throttle to govenor but now seems to stiff. did i get it hooked to the wrong place? it's on a maxim tiller 5 hp briggs 130202 3131-01

on a b/s 5hp the small governor spring goes on a thing that has two ears in it.take the tank back off and as you bring it back in place you will take the gov. spring and turn the top part of it sideways to slip over the ears of the spring holder.when you have it on the spring should be below the holder with the top of the spring in a groove that is between the ears.make sure the white kill wire is out of the way of the throttle cam.this should have the governor spring on correctly.

Rototiller pull start won't pull

First thing to do, if you haven't already, change the oil, and remove all 'old' gas.
Then, after that's done, remove the plug, in order to de-pressurise the cylinder.
Then try to crank it again.
If it turns, then clearly, it's not ceased.
Remember, don't loose you're patience, just take your time.
Good luck with that:)

Bought a new part to hold the starter cord for my tiller

I don't know exactly what you have there, but starters in general work pretty much the same. What you have to do with any starter when you replace the rope is to first wind the spring with the pulley. Turn the pulley in the direction it would be turning if you were pulling the rope. When it's wound tight, back off to align the rope hole in the cover and the pulley. Stick the rope through from the outside through the cover and pulley and tie a knot. Then let the spring tension pull the rope into the starter. Hope that helps. Dwain
