I have two solutions for this problem. the first one is to change the bios settings. the solution is here:  http://techrena.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-install-your-own-wndows-xp-in-hp.html
but for some laptops this setting is not available. so you can try another solution i.e. integrate the SATA drivers in your windows XP cd. this solution is here: http://techrena.blogspot.com/2009/01/integrate-your-own-drivers-or.html

Hi!

One easy way to address this problem is using a usb floppy disk drive with sata drivers on it. If you intend to install dual OS, start with XP, the process will be...insert your floppy to your usb FDD make sure that your USB FDD is connected to one of your USB ports and power up you Laptop and insert your XP installer. During boot up if your system is set up to boot from CD drive it will ask you to hit any key to boot from cd and upon seeing the blue screen you will notice a"press F6...." note on the lower part of your screen. Make sure to Press F6 several times just to make sure that you send the command to get the drivers from other source. At a certain point there will be a screen that will ask you if you want to load the drivers "Press S" press S and choose from the lists of inf files shown. (Note I suggest you add all of them). If the driver that you loaded was the correct one then your good to go.

hope this helps.

Jigar, I have HP Pavilion dv6000, it comes with Vista Home Premium Loaded. But as I am a programmer I also need the XP on my lap.

So I tried the same as you have done. And I fixed the problem.

You are doing one mistake as i think, don't down load SATA from HP web, goto Intel and download SATA driver for your Motherboard, as per its Family, mine was Intel(R) ICH8M, the driver will be a selfextract file, extract all these in a folder and run nLite, and add the drivers from that folder, it will list you all the drivers as per INFs . Add all and burn the CD.

Then use this CD I think it will work surely.

Thanks
Iqbal

Jigar I know RAM is not your problem, the problem is for SATA driver. Follow the my above instruction. It will fix your problem.

    Thanks

My openion is regarding USB floppy drive is not the solution, becoz windows XP setup could not recognize that. You can use USB Floppy only after complete boot-up of XP. So if you will put the SATA driver (i.e. RAID for F6) it will not work. Becoz as well as you will press F6 the setup will raise an error that no floppy drive is found as to access the USB floppy drive the USB driver must be loaded before of use.

Jigar here is screen my screen shot from my device manager:

Please make a same screen shot indicating SATA AHCI Controller. and post it here. Then I can send you the link.

    Thanks

    Iqbal

Disable the SATA option under advance options in BIOS. That should work and it will also allow you to install/reinstall Win XP.

Changing OS from windows vista to xp

You can install xp on a vista laptop, you will need an xp install cd and you will need to backup your data (it will be erased in the downgrade process). As for the drivers, go to your laptops manufactures site. They will have a support section for your laptop model where you can see if there are drivers for xp. If you have the hardware that will support windows 7, I would go with that. Xp is slow and no longer supported by Microsoft as of April 2014, which poses a security risk. Windows 7 will be supported for a while and is faster and more stable than xp or vista.

Put XP disk in CD-ROM and reboot the computer.

Click yes to install XP. It will tell you there is a system already installed on C drive. You select to install XP on C drive. It will ask if you want to format C drive, you select full format.

XP will then install

Unable to Downgrade vista OS to windows 2003 or XP(CQ-LAPTOP)

During the Windows XP install it cannot find a hard drive?
The reason why Windows install does not work is because Windows XP does not have a SATA driver support and therefore cannot find the hard disk.
THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM.
Go into your BIOS and turn off Native SATA support or set it to IDE controller (this setting depends on the type of BIOS). Save the setting and reboot and you will be able to install Windows XP.
IF YOU CANNOT DO THIS IN THE BIOS then :-
Go to the Compaq/HP WEB site to download the SATA driver for your model laptop. This driver is used to install the 3rd party driver
during the Windows installation (during the Windows installation you need to press F6 to allow you to install the SATA driver).

HOW TO INSTALL XP IN VISTA OS OF LAPTOP HP PAVILIION

Hi there.
The only way you can install XP on a Vista machine is to install "virtual XP" onto Vista using Virtual PC 2007.
Here is a site that will take you through the procedure step-by-step and gives links to download Virtual PC and install it onto the machine.
Please be aware that some drivers may not work whilst using XP when you have it installed.

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.

Installation problem of windows xp on compaq presario cq60-104tu

its most likely your hard drive is not recognized by xp because it is a SATA drive. You need to go into your BIOS and set the compatibility mode for sata. or if your bios does not have this option then you need to install the drivers when xp asks if you would like to install any third party drivers during setup check with your manufacturer for the required drivers
