Router has reset itself to jumpstart-p1 something

After years of using dlink router with the same wlan suddenly today it has reset to jumpstart-p1-something and is an unsecured network. I have turned off and reset the modem and router, disconnected and reconnected everything. I can access the admin page & try to reenter my settings and save them and it says it is working but they don't change.

This may be a router at the what is call the "end-of -life and no longer serviceable.
You may have to go an get the latest router at your computer store.
Firmware may be obsolete for the connectivity.

Lost passcode hit reset & it said jumpstart-p1-97492d

Just reset your router and use (admin) for user name and password. To reset your router you can see a small hole in your router which is labeled reset. Use a pin and insert it to the hole and push.

Can the router reset itself? we had ours working for months with a password and then it was reset to jumpstart p1 , my teenage daughter denies she did it. so can it reset itself?

At worst it could be a hacker or your daughter, sorry
Accepting internet and surfing websites give them oppurtunity to gather and or share your personal info.not good at all but can be protected against and prevented, everday info, phone, power, banks, etc
Dont worry take the precautions and reset it,

yes you can reset this machine yourself
on the back off the unit is a small reset button
hold in until the lights flash and then it will be reset to factory defaults,
you will have to set the intenet up again so have to make sure you have the details available to reestablish connection to the internet
Your ISP will help to reconnect you too....

once rest you can go in to the admin and set a new user and password to stop and unauthrised access or changes in the future,
you can also limit or block site access from here too
all you need is the web address and you can blockit

REMEMBER changes must be in ADMIN MODE for them to be of any use.

The DLINK site is helpful and has online help and a download site for manuals and drivers etc,

Hope this helps Cheers MISTERDJ

Please help.... I have just purchased a dlink dir-600 wireless router and I can not connect to 192.168.0.1 from my mac.

For setup, you need an Ethernet cable connection to the router, WLAN needs to be configured first before you can use it to administrate the router.
Quick installation guide is here: ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-600/documentation/DIR-600_revb_qig_multi.pdf
The default user name is "admin" with empty password.
If you suspect the settings are not at factory defaults, press the reset button at the rear for 20 seconds with the router powered on.

I want to set factury default to my fair wall dlink dfl 210

With the unit on, locate the small reset switch on the back of the router. Insert the end of a paperclip into the reset switch and hold for 10 seconds. The router will restart itself and the WLAN light will stop blinking.  The router is now reset to factory defaults.

Remember The factory defaults username is admin, and there is no password.

Very slow, or no connection to internet, on wired computer, not wireless one

Yes, it would be best to reconfigure it. Try the following but note.. resetting the router will erase all previously given settings.

First, reset the router - when the unit is on, press the reset button (using a paper clip) for 20 seconds then let go of the button. Once the WLAN light is solid, it means that router has rebooted.

Go to a computer wired to the router and open Internet Explorer, enter http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar. Enter admin for the username and leave the password blank.

Once you're in the Dlink page, this is where you can configure your Internet and Wireless settings again. Just run through the setup process (as if you just got the device out it's box).

Goodluck!

Dlink problem

If those light are all lit up and WLAN is OFF there's a big possibility that the device is getting bad, first thing to do here is to reset it , to reset the unit Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds using a pen for about 30 seconds while the power is ON, then after that release the reset button and unplug the power of the router for 10 seconds and hopefully after that the lights should be back to normal but if not you may need to contact Dlink or get a new router instead...
