If You downloaded the correct wifi drivers and still didn't get wireless...
Choose a different series... Try acer aspire 3000 wifidrivers... then Acer Aspire 5000 wifi drivers, if still no luck... Choose the acer ferrari 3000 wifi driver.. or the acer travelmate 5530 wifi driver/..
I've had alot of Acer Aspire models.. including yours... and I too would have to jump around to different models to get all correct drivers,...
Here are the links for the drivers you need.Windows XP Pro 32bit: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles%5CDriver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless_Atheros_5.3.0.67_XPx86.zip?acerid=633640465077227028&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205100&OS=X02&LC=en&SC=PA_7Windows XP Home 32bit: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles%5CDriver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless_Atheros_5.3.0.67_XPx86.zip?acerid=633640465077227028&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205100&OS=X01&LC=en&SC=PA_7Copy and paste which ever version you have installed. It should open a direct link to the driver.
I found these 3 drivers on Acer's Website. I have labeled each of them with the Manufacture of the wireless card they are intended for. If you know who the manufacturer of you card is then try that download first, if not try each one until you get the right one (I would try the intel first, then the broadcom, and finally the atheros.)
Well, I did the same thing, replaced vista with XP Pro, and couldnt get the wireless to work (the xp runs incredibly faster on this machine, B.T.W).
After days and days of trying to figure out this same problem, I finally found the driver. I found it at gateway...the link is here... http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=Wireless_Broadcom_4312_v4.170.25.12_XPx86&st=kw
Hope this helps all of you who did the same!
Peace...

If you have the restore cds for windows xp home, the drivers from that will still work in windows xp pro. There should be a separate cd for drivers. Try that first. You can also try Windows update, sometimes it will find drivers.
