In most cases I find that that section in your receiver just got turned off somehow. Go into the set up where it shows the 5.1 speaker display and make sure the speakers are all activated. Larry's Electronics. ledstiles@hotmail.com

Sound only coming from 3 of 6 speakers

A 5.1 sound card will give output in all channels only if the audio being played is also 5.1.

Normally out of 6 Speakers only 2 front and sub woofer will play sound, in case of a DVD or Movie which has 5.1 encoding, all 5 will come alive.

Also, Dolby Prologic II and Dolby Digital will convert a 2 channel input into psudo 5.1 enviornment but Dolby has to be in hardware or speakers or Receiver.

I have connected all speakers but not getting anything coming through the subwoofer? I have connected all of my existing Sony suround system speakers 4 corner and one middle and the sub woofer to the...

You need to use an amplified sub. The Yamaha receiver is only sending "Pre-Amp Signal" not amplified audio like the rest of your speakers. If your sub has a crossover built in, connect it's speaker level (wires) to the "B" side of the receiver which will send audio to your sub and it will cross it over internally. Not the best sounding, but it works. Amplified subs range in price from 200 and up. Hope this helps

Kenwood 107VR rec and No vol from Sub Output w/ menu Opt On

In the setup menu are the speakers set to large or small? On some receivers if you have it set to large all the bass is directed to the right-left fronts.
On my pioneer receiver if the speakers are set to large the sub-pre-out only works if the receiver is in a surround mode, if its in stereo mode and the speakers are set to large the sub-pre-out is dead. If the speakers are set to small the sub-pre-out works all the time.
Also, some receivers won't send a signal to the sub-pre-out if there is no LFE discreet signal info from the dolby digital or dts bitstreem.
For example I have several older dvd's that light up the L C R SL SR icons on my receiver, but don't light up the LFE icon. I have other older dvd's that just light up the L and R icons meaning they are only recorded in stereo like a vhs tape recorded in dolby surround.
In my basement I also have a kenwood dolby digital receiver.
I've noticed that when a dvd only lights up the left and right icons the pioneer will automatically switch to dolby pro logic surround. The kenwood will only send the signal to the left and right fronts (stereo). If I manually switch it (kenwood) to dolby pro logic I'll get sound from all the speakers just like the pioneer, but it does'nt do it by itself.
Most receivers that have a tape monitor won't work in surround mode with the tape monitor on. The pioneer will let me use the tape monitor with dolby pro-logic but won't pass through a dolby digital signal with the monitor on.
Hope this helps.

Which jacks to wire the subwoofer to?

Your receiver should have an RCA connector on the back panel that will be marked "sub woofer" or "LFE out". That connects to your sub woofer with a standard RCA type cable. Also, some powered subs have left and right speaker level inputs and outputs in which you would indeed run the sub woofer through the speaker outputs. The down side of that type of connection is that the line level converter inside the sub woofer will take a slight amount of your receiver's output power, although that is rarely detectable. Also, if you have a Dolby Digital receiver, using this connection method will take away systems ability to accurately control the low frequency effects of a soundtrack.

Good Luck,
BB

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video
