Question about Acomdata (HD160FE5-72) (HD160FE572) 160 GB Hard Drive

Open Question

Does the Hard Drive have an internal fuse? I have

Does the Hard Drive have an internal fuse? I have a light on the power supply showing it is on, but the device does not show up in "My Computer" when I turn the switch on. The power light on the drive failed some time back, but the device still worked until today. I noticed this problem just after I restored the computer to it's settings two days ago which solved another problem I had. I have tried all of the connections several times, to no avail.
I may have unplugged cords while the HD was on, I admit.

SOURCE: External hard drive will not turn on

REAL SOLUTION!!!: I had same problem with my 500GB drive. ACOMDATA, which is very rude when yo call them, but what do you do when they don't respond to their tech support e-mail request e-mails. WELL THE FIX: Believe it or not, the USB connector at the back of the drive accepts the connection when its upside down. Please check the connection and make sure it is connected correctly it, my drive is working now, but now it only connects at USB1.1 speed.
ACOMDATA lets the connector hook up backwards, maybe that fried the devices abiltiy to connect at full USB 2.0 speed? ACOMDATA BITES!!

SOURCE: Hard Drive doesn't show up

Hi,

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: acomdata hard drive doesnt show up on my computer

If you have the blinking red/blue light and clicking noise you should try a new AC adapter. I just got the same power supply from a friend's drive and the problem is gone. Drive is back to normal and all contents are intact. Don't be fooled by the green light on the AC adapter. Even though it's on, it might be damaged. I guess my was damaged by lightning a few days ago.

SOURCE: Light doesn't turn blue at all

Plug it into another computer if possible, clear ALL files on it.
You must of been sending something to it when you flicked the switch, they would normally go off straight away.

(Backup on the other computer first)

If this does not work then you may want to see if you can see a usb stick in your USB ports. If you can it's a fault with the harddrive, nothing else you can do.

SOURCE: Not showing my external hard drive

you might have to log off the computer and log on again with another user. the user that you installed the data under is sometimes the only way to go back and retrieve it. try this first.

I think you bought a piece of junk especially if you cannot hear the hard drive spin when you connect the power supply.
I suggest you get a tech savy friend to check out this hard drive for you.

When drive is switched on blue light on front flashes rapidly but the drive icon does not appear on the dektop.

Hello, the light blinking rapidly means that the drive is trying to establish communication with the computer but cannot.
First, check if the power brick is silent when plugged into the wall power outlet. If it is noisy, like hissing or high pitch noise, usually replacing it will solve the issue.
If the power supply seems healthy, it might be the port you are currently using, either on computer or drive side. Try using a different port on the computer, if no change, try using a different port on the drive. Using USB if connected firewire or using Firewire if connected USB.
If your drive is out of warranty, you can take out the internal hard drive and connect it directly to an internal port or put it in another enclosure to access your data, the internal hard drive should have no issue.

The power supply light comes on,but when i plug it the light goes out.how do i fix this problem .ty

Hello,
when the green light on the power supply goes off or starts flashing when you plug it into the LaCie drive, there is a failure at the level of the internal electronic components. Either only on the interface, or on both the interface and one/both of the hard drive.
Usually, replacing the interface would solve this, but before doing so make sure that the internal hard drives electronic boards do not have any failure else they will cook your new interface. It is advised to consult someone skilled in electronics to inspect the internal components.

I have just been given a Maxtor 750gb separate hard drive but it has no power adaptor. Would i be able to use an adaptor from my 500gb Maxtor separate hard drive or will i have to purchase a new power...

By SEPARATE I am taking that to mean an external drive and not an internal mounted drive. If IT IS external the same power supply should work fine as the drive motors are the same in both models. IF IT IS Internal then the question is whether your power supply is molex or ATA.

Power loss in external harddrive

Hi mjcole,
Couple things. What model WD drive do you have? Plugging the laptop adapter into the drive chassis may have fried the chassis. You can buy a new chassis and put your drive into it, or you can buy a new power supply in case the one you have has gone bad and you did not realize it. Not likely though.

The power requirements are very specific and the laptop power supply may have been to much for the WD drive.

Wont power on

you could have a bad fuse inside your power supply or maybe even a bad supply you may want to check the internal fuse before going through costly replacement

Short Cicuit on my Buffalo external hard disk...Help!!!!!!!!!

First of all Hi!

This Fixya will help you solve this problem. First of all your hard drive should be still ok but you will require to open the hard drive enclosure and replace the power supply (due to the wrong voltage tapping). Please feel free to follow these fixya's not only to recover your photos but get back a working hard drive!

Solution 1: Check fuses
1. Disconnect faulty enclosure from any mains supply
2. If power supply is INTERNAL you will have to OPEN the enclosure but BEFORE you do that WITH THE hard drive UNPLUGGED TURN ON the power switch to discharge the hard drive's internal power supply
2. Open the enclosure and check for any fuses on the inside. There should be one located close to the power swtich from inside. Change it with one of a similar rating because most probably this is the culprit.
3. Try and power up the drive THIS TIME WITH the CORRECT voltage tapping
4. If the power supply is EXTERNAL you do not need to open the enclosure, just change the power supply with a similar one and you should be up and running again.

Solution 2: But the fuse is ok but there is bbq smell when i opened the enclosure!
1. Ok this means that you will need to get hold of the internal hard drive.
2. If you have another computer check if the hard drive is still ok! Here is how:
- Turn off the computer
- Open case , #
- Hook it up to the Internal IDE cable and the internal power connector
- Turn on the computer.
- You should have this detected in my computer as a new hard drive and you
should be able to see all the data in it
2. But probably you still want this as external dont you? Ok buy another enclosure from a computer shop (this time you will just need an empty one)
3. Plug the hard drive in new enclosure. If you're not experienced enough just give it to them to hoook it up for you and FINALLY you should have the reincarnated buffalo hard drive functional again.

Hope this fixya was of help :)

Best Regards
ALx

- Please take some time to rate this solution, really appreiciated thanks :) -

I have 3in1 USB 2.0 to IDE & SATA Cable but nothing to show me how to use this kit

SATA 3.5" 2.5" IDE 3 IN 1 TO USB 2.0 CABLE ADAPTOR KIT

1 external connection kit
1 internal connection kit

The internal connect kit consists of 1 red USB connector cable
and 1 internal white male molex connector to SATA female power connector
( 1 yellow wire , 2 black wires , 1 red wire )

the external connect kit
consists of a 3 pin power adaptor (with a tiny plug to save space) feeding a power supply which powers either IDE thru a Molex connector or SATA through a supplied adaptor. Supplied also are data connectors to link the IDE or SATA hard drive with a USB port. Use this adaptor set to retrieve data from a hard drive when it is not mounted in a computer.
