Question about Coolmax HD-211-eSATA Hard Drive

1 Answer

I got into my Coolmax external hard drive on my computer, via internet cable and router. I got into the hard dirve OK. I am trying to get another 2nd computer recognized on the hard drive. The Coolmax internet message shows up on 2nd computer through hard wired internet, I registered the ID and passwood OK, did RUN //storage/person and 2nd computer's hard drive was not recognized when I tried to link it. Is this a sharing problem???

Indeed, it sounds like a sharing problem. But, based on your explanation, I'm not sure what your issue is as your terminology is not standardized.
Example: you said, "I am trying to get another 2nd computer recognized on the hard drive." What would be more accurate, is that you are trying to get the 2nd computer to recognize the 1st computer so you can access the 2nd computer's hard drive.

On the other hand, you said the hard drive uses a network interface, and you have it connected to the router. So does it have some kind of web based interface? No, if what I read about it says that it uses USB 2.0 and eSATA, which means it is directly connected to the 1st computer, and so it would have to be shared to the 2nd computer via the 1st computer.

I also note you don't specify any operating system, which is absolutely required. Because, for example: Windows 10 has sharing problems; I'm a professional, and I haven't bothered till they fix it.

You said: "I registered the ID and password", which does sound like you're using Windows to set up a share. But then you say, "Did Run //storage/person" which means nothing to me. As that's not any way to set up a share that I'm aware of. (Maybe I'll learn something ;-)) And then you say, "2nd computer's hard drive was not recognized" and that's confusing, because I thought you were trying to see the Coolmax which is on the 1st computer, right? Or is it on the 2nd computer. So it's really not clear what you're doing, or what you think you're trying to do. If you clear this up, I'd be happy to see what I could do to help.

SOURCE: I bought a coolmax hd-250B-u2 sata enclosure case

What drive did you put in there ?

Make sure it is connected directly to a USB 2.0 port on the computer some enclosures dont like hubs and even if it did work from a hub you should ensure the hub has its own power supply. Also only use the cable that came with it not one that looks the same that you may have lying around.

SOURCE: Hi I have a 'COOLMAX

I had problems with mine after a few years, it wouldn't show up in windows. I took it apart and the hard drive had moved away from the front panel and unplugged itself. there are 4 screws on the bottom that hold the hard drive in place, they must have loosened allowing the drive to move back unplugging itself from the panel. thought I had lost a few years worth of backed up pictures, glad it was that simple.

How can I get my Belkin router to read my Seagate storage device so that all computers in the house can access said Seagate storage device?

1) Turn off your wireless router and unplug the external hard drive you want to make wireless.
2) Plug an Ethernet cable to the "Network-attached storage" device, and the other end of the cable to an available Ethernet port on your wireless router.
3) Connect one end of the USB cable to the wireless router's available USB port and the other end of the USB cable to your "External" hard drive.
4) Turn on the both the Wireless router and the External hard drive. Make sure that your Internet connection is still working.
5) Insert the installation CD and run it on your computer. Follow the installation instructions and install any utilities related to your external hard drive. There may be special utilities provided for flash drives that are not needed for hard drives.
6) Create a login name and security password for the "NAS" device during the setup process. When the installation process is completed, you will now be able to use your external hard drive.

I have an i mac and windows 7 laptop.......the laptop is brand new and i want to transfer all my music and movies from my mac......can this be done and if so how???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

> transfer from Mac to PC ... how ?

Several ways:

* use Ethernet cables to connect the network-port on each computer to a "router" (one of those boxes that "splits" your Internet signal, and might provide "wireless" access inside your home), and then enable "file-sharing" on both computers.
Then, the computers can "talk" to each other, via the router.

* write all the files to an external storage device, e.g., USB memory-stick or Western Digital Passport device. Move the device to the other computer, and copy from the device onto the computer.

* "burn" all the files to CD-recordable or DVD-recordable disks.
Move the disks to the new computer.

The Coolmax adapter is an USB hard drive adapter that can connect various types hard drives to your computer. This is used for testing and and transferring data to and from hard drives connected to the computer via the computer's USB port.

This Coolmax USB hard disk adapter can connect a 2.5-, 3.5- and 5.25-inch IDE or SATA hard disk to a PC. The black adapter box connects the hard disk, while the secondary power plug/adapter powers the drive. In the case of smaller notebook or SATA disks, the power cable is plugged directly into the adapter (as opposed to straight into the IDE hard disk).
The red USB cable, meanwhile, can be used to power hard disks directly from the host PC's bus via another USB port.

Connect the hard drive to the adapter as detailed above, power up your computer and plug the Coolmax USB cable into the conputer's USB port. The computer will detect and see this as an external drive, most likely as a E drive (the next drive letter that is available). Click on this drive and open to open the folder/s where your data is stored then select the folder/s and/or data and copy them, then open the hard drive on the computer and paste the folder/s and/or files onto the new hard drive.

Plug it in, It's just sitting there clicking, no action

Do you have the AC adapter plugged into power, and plugged into the Coolmax?
(Plus the USB cable plugged into the computer, and to the Coolmax?)

Is your Coolmax an XtremeFiles F1-B?
The link below is to a review of the F1-B, and also details out how to set it up, and install it. This should also work for your external backup harddrive, if it is not an F1-B.

I have a dead hard drive 2.5" SATA

If it is truly dead and you MUST have the information from it then the only real alternative is to send it to a data recovery expert. These services are NOT cheap
If it clicks or makes random noises clicks pings etc then it is most likely dead I am afraid.

Set up 2 wireless routers, 1st for printer, 2nd for internet

You should only need one wireless router for everything. The purpose of the router is to "route" multiple devices together. Your set-up should be something like this:

Modem connected to wireless router via Ethernet cable.
Wireless router broadcasting wireless internet connection.
Computer(s) connected to wireless router via cable or wireless adapter.
Computer with network printer sharing enabled.
Turn on wireless printer.
You should be able to detect the printer via Windows.
