Garmin Nuvi 350 with Ver: 5.30 software

The problem with Nuvi 350 is: I just dwnloaded Ver: 5.30 and it runs fine until I plug in either USB charger then it instantly displays a picture of a compter with a USB cable running to the unit. At this point it is frozen up and the only way to unfreeze or use the unit is to unplug the charger. I've tried the reset as well but no better. Any ideas ? Paul

I have the same problem. Loaded the same software rev you did and now my unit shows the computer symbol everytime I plug it in to my cigarette lighter. I'm glad I'm not the only one having the problem... so what's the solution? Any ideas?

Same problem; once the battery is depleted, the unit is useless until battery is recharged and it's very slow to charge. Seems odd that the Nuvi 350 would be designed to be inoperable while charging!!!

From your description this sounds like normal functioning unless I am missing something. When the unit is connected with the USB cable to a computer, it will appear as a storage device (i.e. disk drive) to the computer. I.e. Open 'My computer' and you should see it in the list of devices as another disk drive such as E: or F: or whatever the next available drive letter is on your computer. Now open the drive letter and you will see the files in the NUVI. On mine I see the user's manual as a .pdf (Adobe) file. I don't have explanantions of what the other files contain, but I believe in the user's manual there are explanations for at least some of the files. One or more contain user data and this gives you a way to back up this information so that if you perform a software upgrade that erases all this data, you can re-load it into the Garmin when you are done with the upgrade. You can copy any of these files to your computer by doing a typical file copy operation. I would be careful not to delete any files unless you know what you are doing. I believe deleting some files may cause the Garmin to stop operating, but I'm not sure.

You should only see the computer icon when plugging the 350 into a USB port on the PC. If you see it when plugging in a car charger/adapter, then there may be a problem with the mini-USB port on the 350 or the charger is an after-market charger that is not electrically compatible with a Garmin charger. Nuvi 350 will not run on DC charger

Make sure your DC & AC charger is a OEM charger.

There is a good chance that there is a bad connection on the mini-USB port.

What happens when you plug the unit into the cradle and NOT use the mini-USB jack?

I have just purchased a sendai universal home charger, when I plug it is my Garmin 200, and the other end into the electrical socket I get a picture on the screen, looks like a computer with a plug running...

The nuvi thinks you've connected it to the USB port of your home computer. It's charging, so pay no attention to the screen.

If you HAD connected it to the USB port, you would also see the nuvi as a storage device attached to your computer. That's how you can download pictures that you can display on your nuvi. It's also the mechanism used when you update your maps and/or software.

Nuvi charger voltages for 360 vs. 2xx/7xx

They are compatible. There is no difference. They all take +12VDC and convert to +5VDC. The pin out of the mini-USB is the same. This is a standard port on all Garmin units.

My Garmin Nuvi 300/350(2 years old) comes on and

I solved the problem by charging internal battery using the 120V. charger that came with the unit. I was not aware, that the cord in car was not charging my Nuvi and that it was running OK. until the battery was low and quit. I have to check this cord. Peter W.

Cant use the garmin 350 while charging

The solution is really easy. Works in the car or usb charger or whatever.
Once you insert the car charger, wait till the pc connection picture comes.
Than unplug the car charger.
Re-insert it as soon as the picture goes off.
Voila. It is ready to use now!

Garmin gps won't charge while driving

If the Nuvi won't charge when connected to charge but charges on USB, then the charger port is faulty.

If the Nuvin does not charge at all , then the battery must be replaced.

Battery Charging, Nuvi 35

Charge the unit over night, Plug in the AC charger and you should see a lightning bolt over the battery bar graph display.

With the charger plugged in, gently press and hold the on/off power until the screen goes black and displays the text "Charging battery". After a few seconds, the screen will go black to conserve power. At any time, you can press the screen and it will light up saying its still charging.

If you let it go over night, when you touch the screen, it will say Charging Complete and you can then remove the charger. You should have full green bars on the battery indicator.

Charging

Rizpah,

the GPS thinks that you have plugged it into a computer, which should not do anything bad to the GPS. It will continue to charge fine, it just thinks that it's plugged into something that it is not.

have a happy day.
