Initially release any clips by squeezing with a pliers and pushing back along the line. Lines can be prised off using a snipe nose pliers or flat blade screw driver, pushing on the edge of the line. Don't pull the lines which can stretch them.Two fuel lines leave the tank of a two stroke engine. The primer bulb sucks gas from the tank via the line with the filter on the end, gas returns to the tank via the other line without the filter. When you replace a line, to check whether they haven't been mixed up, fill the tank but leave the line without the filter above the level of the gas. When you push the primer bulb, gas should eventually squirt out the line without the filter. If the lines are mixed up, air bubbles will flow out of the filter and no gas out the other line.

This could be a number of things. Clogged air filter/fuel filter/carburetor/fuel tank lid breather hole, cracked fuel line or primer bulb, or clogged spark arrestor in muffler. Most likely cause for this is fuel lines connected wrong or an air leak in one of them. Another scenario is the fuel line decayed inside the fuel tank (check it) and the filter fell off and now the line comes up out of the fuel on occasion. A clogged filter screen in the carburetor under the fuel pump cover causes this too. So...start at the fuel tank...check for cracks in the fuel lines (and in the PRIMER BULB) too, because air is unwanted in the system, but a little is always there.
A fuel system inspection is needed here. You need to check the intank fuel filter,(make sure its not clogged) the condition of the fuel lines,(soft, not brittle with no tears or cracks) ,the ventin the gas cap,(little rubber tube must allow air in). Foremost, check the condition of the bulb itself:sets in (primer base assembly) that has very small check valves inside it controlling the inflow and outflow of fuel. There cannot be any air leaks as the bulb on the carb and one mounted remotely from the carb depend on a vacuum effect to operate correctly. So some disassembly and acute inspection will be required.
Well if you are missing parts?...No. How could anyone from where we sit. But the fact that it starts with starting fluid is a great sign however. First off, Fresh gas/oil mix is A MUST! No getting around that. OK first, when you pull the throttle (Give 'er gas) does the little lever at the carburetor move back and forth at all? if yes, then what happens when you hit the primer bulb? Does it push/**** fuel from the tank? (My homelite spits fuel out to the ground when I prime the bulb, most spit it back to the fuel tank however) See if priming it moves fuel. You should see a trail of bubbles in the fuel tubing. You have to see if you are getting fuel at all first. Then does it maintain the prime? If not? Then the primer bulb will usually remain empty. A good prime should always show a half full or 100% full bulb at all times. Let me know what we got so far.
If you look closely there should be 2 holes in the fuel tank, also if you look inside the fuel tank there should be some remaining pieces of the fuel line and a fuel filter. If this has been sitting for any length of time you will also want to replace the fuel filter.
Now comes the fun... or a challenge
To start with you will need 2 sizes of fuel line ( go to a small engine repair shop) while you are replacing things you may want to buy a new primer bulb also.
to insert the fuel lines into the tank you will have to cut a tapered tail about 2 " long so that you can grab the fuel line with a needle nose and pull them through and out of the tank so that you can trim off the tapered tails. On one install the fuel filter and stick back into the tank, on the other trim the tapered tail off and pull the line back into the tank but leave about 1" sticking through the tank.
Now hook up you fuel lines to the carb and/ or primer bulb
Fill tank half full with fuel ... now test the installation if it doesn't pump fuel but instead you can hear it blow bubbles in the tank it is simple just reverse your lines on the carb / primer bulb
Retest if it works like it should you are ready to attempt to start it... good luck
Does the primer bulb pop back out or does it come out slowly? Is the inline hose in good shape or has a crack where it can **** air in? Did you check to see if the diaphgram in the carb is pliable or is it paper-like and needs replaced. Or your carb could be stopped up.
Only one problem..I can't think of any weedtrimmer that has an inline fuel filter. They are usually located in the gas tank.
There is two sizes of line. I see the large one goes to the large port on the primer button and then to the fuel tank. The small one goes from the primer button to the carb. The problem is there are two hose connections on the carb. I believe one is a vent, but I am not sure what one it is. I have a 36cc 2-cycle model 358.352161
