Disc tray my disc tray keeps opening and closing how do I fix it

Mine does that too...but it's because it fell off the shelf 3 feet high on that corner where the eject button is (that fall lasted about 3 minutes in my mind). Anyway, I took off the case and the eject button (it can be removed) pushes a black button on the inside that actually releases the disc tray. That black button is broken/very loose and shakey. So when you hit the white plastic eject button that pushes the inside black button...its so loose that it sends many open/close commands. Have to keep tapping it until it either stays open, or stays closed. You can remove that whole controller piece and solder a new one in (or if somone just sell sthe black eject button maybe try replacing that). I haven't gone that far yet and have been just tapping it until it stays...I'll mess w/ it when i have time and let you know how it goes.

The best way, my brother found out is to turn the console into a different position like if it's laying flat flip it up or vise-virsa.

Make sure nothing is stuck in there without damaging the drive.

If not :
Send the unit back to Microsoft for warranty repair.

I have recently bought the latest Xbox 360 console and it has been fine until recently the disc tray decides to open and close randomly for example i'll be playing a game then the disc tray will open and...

First step is to check and make sure that 1.) There is nothing stuck in the tray slot (even something very tiny can cause issues) and 2.) make sure there is nothing lodged in the open/close button.

Tray won't close

Use the following steps to close the disc tray on an original Xbox 360 console.
Step 1: Remove the disc from the tray Step 2: Make sure the faceplate is on correctly
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
  • Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
  • If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox Support to order a replacement faceplate.
If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3. Step 3: Press the eject buttonTry closing the disc tray by pressing the eject button. If the disc tray successfully closes, open the tray and insert a disc. Now try opening and closing the tray with a disc in the tray.
Note Make sure that the disc isn't sticky and doesn't have any labels that could prevent the tray from closing.
If your disc drive still will not close, please try step 4. Step 4: Move the disc drive tray
  1. Gently move the tray up and down, and then from side to side.
  2. Press the eject button on your Xbox 360 console. If your disc drive still will not close, you need to have your console repaired.
  3. Step 5: Request a repair If the disc tray still won't close properly, your Xbox 360 console needs to be repaired.

Tray closed, but keeps saying tray open

You are having tray sticking problems, you can solve this temporarily by keeping a disc in the tray at all times, even when the console is off or you can give the console a gentle pat close to the front part where the disc tray is, not advisable though because the 360 already has SMD dry joint problems, do this occasionally, try and remove dust also around the grooves under the disc tray, hope this helps

It wont read my disc it sits there and doesnt attempt to read any disc it says open tray how can i fix this?

Ahhhhhh This is a fun one! Ok here is the first thing you should do. Put a disk in the tray and keep in mind the position it is facing. Close the tray and wait for your system to say open tray now open the tray and examine the disc. Let me know if it is in the same position and we'll go from there!

When we put disc in tray keeps popping out and saying close tray.

There is a magnet inside the DVD drive that has dislodged and is now stuck to the top of the drive, causing the tray to keep popping out.

To fix this yourself, you're going to need to open your xbox, open the DVD drive, and glue that little magnet back in its place.

Follow this guide to do it.
