Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Why wont brushes rotate

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

There are several things that may affect the performance of your unit and cause this to happen. The roller brush may stop working properly because of the belts, the roller brush or the filters in your unit.

Belt are recommended to be changed every 3 months, not replacing the belts can cause them to stretch out and the roller brush won't work properly. If the belts are in optimal conditions and do not need to be replaced, this may have been caused by your unit's rollerbrush.

Roller brushes can be cleaned and maintained to avoid frequent replacement. Make sure that there are no hair strands or debris tangled up in the brush roll's bristles, this may cause the roller to not work. Monthly care of your brush roller will help to keep you vacuum working properly.

Last, make sure to check your filters, if the filters have not been washed (if washable) or have not been replaced, it can affect the suction and performance of your unit.

Why the Dyson dc 41 roller brush will not turn?

Try these steps:
  • Check the button that turns off the roller brush to make sure you didn't press it by accident.
  • Unplug the vacuum and clear pet hair and other debris off the roller brush. It may stop as a safety feature if the roller brush is too restricted.
  • Make sure the belt to the roller brush is placed correctly and not broken.
  • Press the roller brush reset button. It may be located on the side of the vacuum's head, or inside the handle. The switch may need to be replaced if it's defective.
  • The roller brush is disabled while the handle is in the upright position, so tilt the handle backwards while testing the roller brush.
I hope that helps you!

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

The main roller will not work

Check for a broken belt that drives the roller. Remove the roller brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the roller brush between the brush and the pieces that hold the brush in place. Turn by hand to be sure the brush moves freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is on properly.
