HL-P5063W Green lines when the tv warms up

Great Forum, I hope these knowledgeable people would suggest some fix for my problem too.

I have this Samsung DLP tv around 2 years old. Recently the tv would display green lines after the set is on for around half an hour. These green lines starts appearing slowly and then about within 10 minutes they are scattered all over the screens. Most of the lines are aound the faces of the people displayed on the screen. if the tv is left off for about 20 minutes these lines will disappear when you turn the tv on but caome back again as the set warms up.

These lines are thin lines and appear to be like dotted lines. I am also attaching picture with the problem. Please help.

I also see the green lines. The lines always seem to be around pure black or white areas of the picture. For the past month or so they would come and go, but now they are always there. In addition there is a purple hue to the picture. For the past month or so this would only happen when we first turned the tv on for about 5 minutes and then the 'good' picture would kick in. Now, as with the green lines, it is always there. Is this related to the lamp, or the color wheel? I'm not seeing any dimming, just artifacts with the color.

I have a samsung DLP HL-P with horizontal green lines and purple lines with green outlining the figures on tv. I have called samsung and they advised me to move my speakers away from the tv, but that did not help. They said if moving the speakers did not help than call a repair company. I also pulled out the light vaccumed out the inside best I could, but it still has the lines. I called the repair company and they told me it would cost 200.00 to 600.00 dollars to fix saying the "board" needed to be replaced. Samsung's customer service was terrible leaving me on hold for a total of 60 minutes. If you spend 1700.00 on a tv you would expect it to last more than 3 years. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I am also having the same problem with my 50" Samsung DLP. The set it only 5 years old. Please let me know if anyone knows what this problem is caused from.

Well, I have the same exact problem as ajutomation. Its a different model number and only a couple of years old. I have called a repair man, but as not under warranty, I guess I do not want to be out hundreds of dollars if there is no fix. I did try to problem solve with Samsung but to no avail.

Would rather choose to buy new I guess.

I have model HL-R5067W and have the green lines all the time. They just started with no reason but set is 3 years old. Tried talking to samsung that was a joke please there no help what so ever. They have had lots of calls with the same issue and just tell you they can set up a repair center at your cost of course. If you are considering buying samsung buy the warr. you will likely need it. Me i will say away from samsung products all together.

Same problem with the green lines. Sometimes its green and purple squares. Strangely if I use PIP, the PIP looks fine. Can anybody help?

  • TANYAELISE Nov 06, 2008

I have the HL-R5667W. Exact same problem....I also have the intermittent shut off Problem. GREAT. Here is what I have found out so far... PIP has a clear picture. HDMI has a clear picture (anything plugged into the HDMI input). HD channels are clear. TV Guide set up has a clear picture. Menu is good. At first, when I would get the green lines, I would do something very bad to the TV. With the TV on and playing, I would turn off my power strip then turn it right back on. The WORST reset you could do for electronics. At that time the TV would play all night no problems. Now it takes anywhere from 5 to 15 times of resetting like this to get it to work. I also noticed that there is a component winding up VERY slowly when I have the green line problem and when it spins up quickly....no lines.

Call me if you have resolved this. 443-404-6377. My TV is about to get a free ride to the dump.

Hate to re-open an old forum but I am having this same issue with green lines but I noticed that it is only in 480(i/p) anything else such as 720p or 1080i everything looks great. If anyone has had this fixed please let me know or even email me at ericnierm@hotmail.com.

Mine also has this problem. Whenever my components are plugged in the green lines appear. I changed my setting and the only way the cable box or dvd player will work clearly is when put on GAME.

My Samsung DLP is having the same problem.  Not sure what to do, but I will contact my warranty place for the second time.  Hopefully they'll fix it.  Any other suggestions?

Hello.
It looks like you ignored lamp replacement in your TV. It have to be replaced every 2.5 years of average use. It's like oil change in a car. Regular scheduled service.
You can read info about lamp replacement in your TV owner's manual, buy lamp on-line and replace it by yourself to save some money.
Regards.
Russ.

Hi,

You get white spots inside the samsung DLP tv due to bad Digital Micromiror Device , or bad DMD board .

What is actually the problem is the DMV chip connected to this board . Inside this chip are 3 million tiny mirrors ,and when they physically get stuck , they either show black or white instead of a color
This is well know problem with SAMSUNG DLP...

The DMD chip is failing. If not under warranty expect to pay a few hundred to several hundred to get it fixed

The mirrors on the DLP chip are slowly sticking either fully open (white) or fully closed (black). The part that contains the DLP chip is the Light Engine. It is the most expensive part of the TV.Only the Samsung TVs has this issue.

Replacing the DLP chip and the micro mirror would solve this issue...

Pleaserate this solution,

Letter I sent to President of SAMSUNG.

You are complaining about a 5 year old set. Take your chances and buy the board. The amount of effort you put into that letter is also the same amount of effort it takes to replace the board. Samsung has no idea how many hours you have used the set for because the counters can be reset and as with any electronics, things can and do FAIL!!!. Good luck to you

White dots appearing on Samsung TV screen and multipling each day

It seems you might have an issue with the dmd board. Go to the menu, and if the dots still show on the menu, the issue definitely is with the dmd board but if they don't come up on the menu, the issue will be with the video board.

Samsung DLP white spots

Are the spots fixed or do they move with the image? Verify that all venting is clean of dust. If the spots are fixed and upon close examination are a square shape, The device is overheating of failing. If the spots are moving with image it's a front end problem, and can be overheating as well.

PROJECTION TV'S & DLP TV'S

No, your DLP does not need the annual cleaning as your old projection tv did. The rear projection used high voltage, 35kv, which attracted dust and smog. I would recommend to have your DLP cleaned when your LAMP goes out. Your lamp should last 2-3 years, then I would call a factory authorized service dealer to replace your DLP's lamp and have them do the cleaning at that time. I do it everyday as a in-home service tech.I hope this help.
