RAM is random Access memory if it is too full then you need to shut off some programs and use them one at a time or find older copies of the programs your running which do not take so much space.

Installing new hard drive in a aspire 5736z

Yes you need to install the operating system back to your computer and you also need to install the drivers and the programs on it. New hard drives are blank.
After installing everything up, don't forget to add a premium anti-virus. That's very important. You should also add a tech software like RadarSync so that you won't have to worry about getting your computer's drivers updated.

My mum has got problems loading adobe reader upgrades as it say invalid drive L:/ and there is no L drive on her computer

Hi

I assume you mean updates (improvements) rather than upgrades (new versions).

When downloading, do not let it do a default download. Select SAVE and choose where to download to the Adobe folder in Programs, in Local C:. Install it from there once downloaded.

If you constantly, regularly or occasionally have external hard drives, memory card readers, usb flash memory sticks, usb internet dongles, bluetooth devices, cellular phones or MP3/MP4 players
connected to the computer additional drive letters can be created.

If the first attempt to download the update occurred when any of these devices were connected then the download may remember this drive letter and be trying to download there whether it exists or not.

Certain types of viruses can sometimes create Ghost Drives on your computer.

If in doubt, remove adobe reader and all its components completely from add or remove, restart the PC and then download the latest version from www.adobe.com.

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Adobe Reader - Remove - remove all components > reatrat computer.

When installed properly, Adobe programs should alert you and prepare updates automatically
and should download to the Adobe folder in Programs folder.

No PDF documents on the computer will be affected.

Hope this helps

How do I access the hidden partition to reinstall operating system?

Turn on or restart your notebook, then press F11 while your notebook is
starting.
3 Insert the Operating System Recovery CD/DVD when prompted. The System
Recovery program starts.
Click a system recovery option
Full System Restore (Destructive) reformats the hard drive and
restores the system software as it was when you purchased your
notebook. This process deletes your data files.
Full System Restore with Backup (recommended) moves the
contents of the hard drive to the C:\My Backup folder and installs
a new copy of Windows XP. This option saves your existing data
files, but all programs must be reinstalled and the program settings
reconfigured. You need at least 4 GB of hard drive space to use this
restore option.
5 Click Next. The System Restore - Format and Recover dialog box opens.
6 Click Yes. Files are restored to your hard drive. When file recovery has
finished, the System Restore dialog box opens.
7 Click Restart. Your notebook restarts, and Windows finishes its setup and
installation.
Important
After you restore your system, it will
appear with the same files and programs
it had when it shipped from the factory.
You still need to download Windows
updates and antivirus updates to bring
your notebook’s software up to date.
8 Reconnect your Internet cable and all USB peripheral devices. You are
done.

Hard drive is full need more space

From Control Panel go to Add/Remove Programs

Remove programs that no longer useful to you and delete documents, pictures any file that you don't need anymore.
if you don't have nothing to do with removing programs and deleting files, you have to upgrade or add a secondary hard drive, or a external drive will be a helpful to you, move all your files to your external drive this will also counted as your backup files.

It depends on your operating system.

Most versions of windows have a nackup facility that can APPEND new files to an existing backup.

You may have to install it from your CD if you are talking windows.

his is done by using ADD REMOVE programs and then selecting WINDOWS COMPONENTS

You will find it listed in one of the sections there and when you add it it will ask for your windows CD.

Transferring Files to External Hard drive

I would suggest you find a backup program to do all this for you. I use EZBackItUp (http://www.rdcomp.net/ezbackitup/) a nice freeware program that is easy to set up. Once the files are backed up, though, you should not delete them from your C: drive, as the program will them delete them from the backup too. What you should try to do is move big files (movies, music, etc) to the external drive, which will give you more space on your C: drive. And, as always, make sure you run a good cleaning program (http://www.ccleaner.com for a great one, download and install) to reclaim some disk space.

Good Luck, and I applaud you for having a backup!

I have a Maxtor 6Y120Lo internal hard drive which is my "C" drive it is nearly full Can I add another hard drive and double my "C" drive

You can add another hard drive, but it won't double your C drive; it will just show up as another hard drive.

However, using a program like Acronis, you can hook up the 2nd hard drive, make an exact image of your c drive on the new drive, then connect the new drive in the old drive's place and there you have added more space on your c drive as it will automatically become the c drive.
