Question about GE Monogram ZISS480DRSS Stainless Steel

2 Answers

I have a GE Monogram Refrigerator Model# ZISS48DCASS. The water does not flow thru' the water dispenser though the ice dispenser seems to be working fine. I replaced the water filter but that did not help. The 'GE Use & Care Guide' is not of much help. Need to know where to begin. Need help. Thanks. Vikas - 248-894-1774

    Hi,
    Thanks for your tip.
I checked the humming noise - yes - it is there.

There is approx. 1/2 inch PVC flexible tubing that passes thru' the bottom of the freezer door near the hinge. I looked for a coupling at the bottom of the freezer door. I could not
    find one.
It seems that the thin water tubing might be enclosed in this PVC tubing
I can see a small white plastic tube (water outlet) opening near the water dispenser
    What should I do next?.

    Hi,
    This is what I tried:
    - I heated the small plastic tubes in the reservoir area in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes with the hair dryer.
    - I removed the filter and fitted it back to ensure that it is properly attached. Small quantity of water did flow out when I replaced the filter.

The water is still not dispensing. What else would you like me to try?

    Thanks for your tips.
I did try to get the air out of the dispenser by holding a glass and pressing against the dispenser, a couple of times. It did not help.
I have not at any time pulled the refrigerator out of the place where it is tightly fitted in the kitchen in its slot.
Question 1. Where do I exactly hold to pull it out as it is quite heavy? I am assuming it has some kind of wheels - am I right?
Question 2. Is it OK to pull it out by a couple of feet without damaging any wires / pipes / tubing?
    Let me know.

Thanks. I will try this suggestion tomorrow.
Let you know the progress by Monday.

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer. . GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happening again. The part number for this heater is WR49X10173.
OR
disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad

If you are making ice and no water is dispensing then you can eliminate a few things like the house water supply and the filter.

The 2 most common things that cause this are either a frozen water line or a bad water valve/control to valve

If you listen close while trying to dispense water you should hear a slight hum or buzz from the rear of the refrigerator, you may have to turn the TV/ radio off and make sure the area is quiet to hear this. If you hear the buzz the problem is almost always a frozen water line. The water line runs inside the freezer door and connects just below the door by the freezer hinge, there is coupling there that can be removed. By removing the coupling and trying to dispense you can tell if the freeze is in the door or further up stream.

If you do not hear that buzz then you will need to find the water valve in the back of the refrigerator by pulling the frig away from the wall and following the pipe from the house to the frig. The device that this pipe connects to is the inlet valve, there are two coils on this valve, one for the water and one for the ice. An ohm meter reading about 1000 ohms should be read on each coil, if it is much higher then the valve is bad.

If this is good, the final part to replace is the control that is located just behind the cover of the dispenser, the cover snaps off and a couple screws hold the control in place.

    Hi Vikas,
The attached image shows the reservoir. It is located in the refrigerator behind the lower drawers. That is the most likely place the freeze has occurred. You can remove the drawers and warm up that area with a hair dryer. That should do the trick, you may want to turn the frig temperature up slightly to a warmer setting to help keep this from happening again

If this does not unthaw it the next most common place to have a freeze is near the filter or down the channel between the filter and reservoir.

Make sure the filter is in tight, it can cause poor water flow if it is loose or not seated all the way.

    Hi,

If a small amount of water came out it sounds like it may have unthawed and is flowing, trying holding the glass there for a couple minutes to bleed any air out of the system.

If we still do not have water we have to find where we are loosing it. The best way to start is at the beginning and work our way through the system.

The water valve on the back of the refrigerator where the house water connects is the first place to check, then up at the filter then below the freezer door. There should be couplings or fittings similar to this picture at these locations. Water should flow through when the dispenser is activated.

It should have wheels on both sides in the front and rear. If it has not come out in a long time the wheels may not move well. If you have something protective such as thin plywood or something else to roll it on it would be helpful as you do not want to damage your floor.

You can pull from the sides of the doors and it should come out. The distance it can come is totally unknown. Usually there is enough cord, hose etc to come out a couple feet but not always.

Knowing this it might be better to start at the filter area to see if we have water, The water lines going into the filter should be removable. This is after the water valve so if we have water up there consistently our valve behind the frig is ok.

I have a 42" GE monogram refrig: ZISB420DMC. Water dispenser has had all kinds of problems and I've already had it fixed once. Same for ice dispenser. I just get ice directly out of the bin rather than have it dispense ice. This refrig also doesn't seem to have very much storage space. I can't even put a large pot in the refrig because of that silly light in the back of the refrigerator. I don't like GE refrigerators anymore. I've seen friends and family buy the Samsung refrigerators. They are really nice and I would get a Samsung. Here in Hawaii, Lowes seemed to have the best prices on the Samsung refrigerators.

Could be several problems (I'm a homeowner, not an expert). GE had a problem with the water line in the freezer door: not enuf insulation so the line freezes, hence no water flow. I would look at this first, especially if you press the water dispenser handle and you hear the pump, but no water comes out. Ditto if the ice bin is empty or the ice maker isn't making any more ice. If the icemaker is making ice but not dispensing it, then the auger (thing that agitates the ice cubes in the bin) may be broken or frozen. (if frozen be sure ice cubes in bin are loose and not frozen into one big ice cube).

GE model GSH25JFTACC ice maker not working

When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

GE monogram side by side no ice water dispensed not cold

To actuate the ice maker pull the arm down and it is in the on position.

The water is actually cooled in the refrigerator section. However it is not designed for a continuous flow. It takes time for the heat to be removed between each water draw.

If your refrigerator temperature is not cold enough it will affect the water temperature also. Check the refrigerator compartment temperature with a thermometer.

You may have a clogged water line or filter something blocking the flow of the water or you may have to replace the filter or a water line – it may have a defective sending unit / pump and it would be wise to check it out with a regular service tech and to also check your owner’s manual for troubleshooting.
