  • Raphael Josiah Apr 24, 2010

I still cannot see the words when I type "desk.cpl"

Also The account is not added with the add user command.

  • Raphael Josiah Apr 24, 2010

Wow. Ok I can see in that logon. I will accept soon. True guru. What do I do next? How do I get that theme off the main account?

  • Raphael Josiah Apr 25, 2010

Thank you so much. I got through with your help. I did as you said and created a new account. When I logged on to the new account and open the desk.clp I just studied the pattern I used to change the theme by keyboard once the window was open. I pressed up at least 3 times; then press down once.; that gave me the default xp theme; So I logged on to the old account and did the same and it worked!! Thanks alot. Guru indeed.

Hello and welcome to FixYa.
Try starting up the computer in safe mode, repeatedly tap on F8 before the windows xp logo comes up, you will get to advanced start up options menu.

Select Safe mode.

Once you are in safe mode, try signing in to the administrator account or if not visible go to your own account, try changing the theme, if you can't change the theme, go to start, control panel, user accounts, create a new user, make sure its set to computer administrator.

Then logout from the computer and restart and start it up normally, now sign in to the new account, the theme should be normal there.

let me know if you get stuck at any point or if you need further assistance.

Hold down the windows key and press R, write CMD and click OK

    net user /add testuser

then log out, login with the testuser account that we just created. do you see anything now?

If that doesn't work then repeat the windows key combination to get the run menu open, write Desk.cpl and press enter.

The desktop settings opens up, now change the theme from there, or are you unable to see anything at all?

  • Ekse Apr 24, 2010

desk.cpl gives you the menu you get from right click properties.

on the drop down list there, you have the themes, from the bottom, last entry go up 2 items and take the 3rd most lowest item on the list, apply and ok, bottom right of the window.

    You need to write exactly

    so that is

    net user /add username

since we did not set a password, you can either type the username at the login or just select it from the list depends on what kind of settings your using.

  • Ekse Apr 24, 2010

Okay. You would need to use the Desk.cpl method I talked about, if that doesn't work, you are left with the new account. You need to create a new account that has administrator rights, so you can install programs etc, the new account is just a quest and it cant do much.

If you can't get it done, we have to go to the new account, then run a special command to get you the rights to add a new user the proper way.

    This should work.

In the new account, hold down windows key and press R, in the run menu write:

    runas /user:MainAccount control

You have to replace MainAccount with your username that you use to login with the problem account.

    runas /user:administrator control

This opens the control panel with the rights of that user. Enter your password when asked, then in the control panel, click on classic view, then user accounts. You have to create a new account here. Make sure its set to computer administrator.

Then sign off, then login to your new main account that you just created.

Now I don't know how we would fix the original account, but now you have a new full account, this should do, now you just need to copy your important files from the other account to this account. they are stored in

my computer -> c: -> documents and settings -> the old username ->

inside you will find your documents, desktop icons etc. you can copy those into your new user accounts desktop, so you will be able to find your files.

let me know how that goes.

I need to enlarge my font size, what can i do?

To enlarge your font size:
For XP OS:
Right click on your desktop background, and select properties. A window will come up showing you the various system properties. At the top of this window click on appearance. At the bottom you would see the options to change the font size.

For Windows 7:
Option 1:
Click the start 'Windows button' at the bottom, the type either 'Appearance' OR 'Font size', then enter. You should be able to see the options for adjustment of font size.
Option 2
Right click on your desktop background, then choose 'Personalization'. this should take you to a window where you can edit different appearance settings. At the bottom, you should see font size. You can also edit your themes as well. Most time themes, change everything about the system including font sizes. Thanks

The text size on my computer is too small. I can't figure out how to increase it. Please help

1. Right-click the Desktop and select Properties.
2. Save the current screen settings so if you're unhappy with the results, you can back the changes out. Select the Themes tab, click Save As, and enter the name Original Display Settings. Click OK.
3. Select the Appearance tab, change the Font Size drop-down to Large Fonts, and click Apply to view the new text size. The text in the dialog won't change but the desktop and Start menu will. You can also try the Extra Large Fonts setting.
4. You can also click Advanced, select individual elements of the Windows display, and change their sizes, although this is more difficult to do and the results are less rewarding.
5. If want to back out all of the changes you made, go back to the Themes tab, open the Theme drop-down, select the entry that says Original Display Settings Without "(Modified)", and clickOK.
