Start-> Aceessories->System Tools-> System Restore

Thats the way to make system restore, but before making restore you should must have been made recovery point before. And if you had made, then no prblem it will be listed automatically, use this.

    good that you replied.

ok, since you are unable to do the restore, are you using a desktop or a laptop? because if its a desktop, we can work something like making your disk a slave just in order to recover your files...and after recovering those files, we'll do reformat and install windows again.

    follow up questions.....

do you have another Hard drive installed on your computer? if so, what you can do is install windows XP on that other drive for it to become your primary drive. DONT delete or format your other drive which has your files so that we can retreive those files.

to answer one of your question.

you can only use the restore disk if you had succesfully turned on your system restore on your windows. if it wasnt turned on, it would be a waste to buy it now. restoring would only be successful if there was resotr points made on your computer.

however, there are ways to recover those files even after reformatting your hard drive.

sometimes when you really need to recover your files, you need another drie with an OS to simply look those files and copy them to another drive or flashdrive to have safer ways to save them.

I would like to figure out how to format my hard drive. I have viruses on there, and it won't let me delete them, or run ANYTHING on my computer.

Hi,

Dell pcs manufactured before september 2004 will need a recovery disc to restore it to the factory settings..
In case the computer was bought after 2004 there is a factory image saved in the hard disc.
As soon as you turn the computer on press CTRL+F11 KEY together or CTRL+F12 KEY together.
You will get a screen to do a factory restore.
NOTE-ALL DATA WILL BE LOST IF YOU DO THE ABOVE MENTIONED STEPS BUT THE COMPUTER WILL BE NEW AGAIN.

If the above mentioned steps don't work or the computer is older that sept 2004 you will need a WINDOWS Operating system disc depending on your operating system Eg-xp,vista,win7 or you can also use a recovery disc which is usually provided by the manufacturer which is DELL

Hope this will fix your problem. If not please reply

Thanks and regards

How do i reset my hp computer back to the way i bought it?

factory settings could mean performing a system restore to a previous state of the OS. I'll try to explain how you can perform each one of these methods in the article below.
Restore Factory Settings - System Restore System Restore is the in-built tool of Windows XP and Windows Vista that allows you to roll back the registry to a previous state. Note that it only "restores" previous settings for the registry and Windows system files.
You can use system restore to get rid of spyware, but if system restore does not fix your problem, you'll have to resort to either a clean install of the OS or using your recovery CD/DVDs.
You can read my previous post on how to restore your computer using the System Restore feature. If system restore is disabled, you can read my post on how to enable system restore again.
restorefactorysettings-thumb.png
Restore Factory Settings - Recovery CD/DVDs Most computers come with either a recovery CD/DVD or a recovery partition that is hidden on the computer. This is true for most HP and Dell machines now these days.
If you have one of these, you can access the recovery from within Windows or during startup.
For HP, you can go to Start, All Programs, HP Tools, and then choose HP PC System Recovery.
hprecoverymanager-thumb.png
You can also press the F10 key multiple times during bootup to get access to the recovery console in case Windows is not loading properly.
On Dells, you can access the recovery partition by pressing Ctrl + F11 immediately after the machine is turned on.
Note that all of your data will be lost on the hard drive. Using a recovery CD is not the same as repairing XP. When you repair Windows XP, all of the system files are replaced with the original ones, but your data and applications remain intact.
Restore Factory Settings - Clean Install XP Your last and final option for restoring XP to factory settings is to perform a clean install. This requires having the CD/DVD for the OS. If you only have a hidden recovery partition, you will not be able to perform a clean install.
A clean install basically consists of booting from the original XP CD, deleting all partitions, recreating new partitions, and then installing Windows XP from CD.
It's a fairly straight-forward process and you can read this excellent tutorial for step by step instructions. Again, it's important to note that you will lose all your data in this process.

My parents just gave me this computer. I dont have any discs with it can I restore it to factory settings with out cd and how

If you can start up the computer and use it then you can create your own boot disc. It can be hard if you don't know what your doing. Another option is to go buy a new hard drive and windows xp. (Note from the specs you have given, Vista wont work on this computer as Vista needs min 1GB Ram to operate).
Check this site for info: http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml Hope it helps.

System restore emachines T3504 disc missing, emachines no longer offers disc! computer is not that old! help! my daughter is heartbroken! i need the disk to complete a system restore.

Is their files that need to be retrieved from the computer? If you were doing a restore they would be lost. You have other options. Your best option is to just purchase a copy of windows xp and install a fresh copy of windows. you will still have to find the drivers on the internet and download and install the. All of this work should really be done by someone who is computer savvy but its really not that difficult.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Thanks,
Lee

Having Trouble Reinstalling XP on my Dell Dimension 3000

Here's what I would do. Download and burn any Linux disk. Install Linux and delete all partitions while doing so. After that, initiate the Windows XP installation and see if that works.

This will take care of two things:

If you can install Linux, then the hard drive is good and the partition that was previously on there will be deleted (I suspect the partition is locked which can be caused by a virus or the software used to scrub hard drive).

Check your CDs for Windows (for scratches) or it could be your actual CD drive is out (laser) which would make the installation fail. If the CDrom cannot read the disk, it locks up like that during installation...even if it read before.

I Need a e-machines restore disc for a T3302 Help Pls

Okay E-Machines was bought out by Gateway. Thru there normal downloads for that model, they don't have a part number for the restore discs.

Best thing to do is to chat with them live thru there link here:

https://support.gateway.com/Support/copilot/en/us/chat_us_em_tech.asp

If you would rather call, here is there phone numbers depending on whether your machine is under warranty or not:

866-586-2237* (under warranty)

877-721-7314* (out of warranty)

They can get you the part number and then you decide whether you want to purchase it from them or do your own search for the cd's cause it maybe cheaper to go with another website that sells restore discs.

Do I need windows xp disc to reinstall?

To format your hard-drive then re-install Windows? Yes, you would need one.

If you're attempting to rid yourself of a virus, you can definitely attempt a system restore. However, most modern viruses are smart, and the first thing they will do is integrate themselves into the system restore files. If however you have a system-restore disk (CD-ROM) which came with the computer, those will obviously not be infected (nor will they be infected) and can be used to restore the system to the state it was in when you first turned it on.

Let me know if I can help you further.
