Question about Poulan/Weed Eater No. 5000p 952711612 Pole Pruner Attachment

Open Question

It will start and run but backfires thur the carb.

My weedeater will start and run but backfires thur the carb. You can only get to about half throttle before you get a backfire that will kill it. I pulled the flywheel to check keyway no damage. No lose carb to jug or head bolts. Whats wrong? Thanks Bill

this could one or a combination of a few things
1 check inside the tank for dirt 2check that the filter screen inside the tank is not plugged3 make sure the gas feed tube is not restricted pinched in the case or kinked also you can try a simple carb adjustment.also check to make sure the plug is gapped to the right specs good luck and i hope one of these suggestions do the trick

SOURCE: Head Bolts torque

On the trimmers when torqing head bolts down,I dont bother looking for torque specs (theres some people that will shoot me for saying this). I just snug them up and then give each one a one quarter turn tighten up. Its always worked for me.

It sounds like you are putting it into choke mode. The choke is usually all the way up on tractors. And it will make it backfire and flood out. Just rev it high enough to work and don't go into the choke mode. hope this helps.

CHECK THE SCREEN ON OUTPUT OF THE MUFFLER. ITS CALLED A SPARK ARRESTOR, THESE GET OIL FOULED AND MAKE EM A BEAR TO RUN . Won stay running


Needs a carb adjustment, cleaning, or possible rebuilt. Try adding a little seafoam and running at half choke for about 5 mins or longer this may clean it up nicely. also check the spark plug.

Weedeater FB25 5months old only used once and was hard to start right from the box. Can't get it to run now. What steps should I take on troubleshooting


This sounds much like poor car settings ( set too lean ) you need to richen up the L and H screw on the carb, unfortunatley there will be anti tamper sleeves on the carb or a special tool reqired to adjust them, turning the screws anti clockwise will richen the mixture if you manage to remove the caps or get hold of the apropriate tool.

It just quit running and not when i try to crank it it trys to fire but backfires thur the carb


Sounds like a float problem but do a complete carb overhaul and if OHV engine do a rocker clearance check. Watch video at smalleng.com Good Luck...

Weed eater starts and idles after it warms. When I accelerate it sounds like it is choking itself out or it is starved for gas then stalls.restart and it does it all over. Sometimes it stalls when i go to...


Take out carb and spray with carb cleaner through and into all portals. Blow out with air compressor.and reassemble.

Adjust idle and low and high mixture screws according for proper operation.

Simple solution your weed-eater has a Walbro carb buy a rebuild kit and rebuild the carb and it will run like new, don't touch any screw settings on the carb. You can purchase from your local repair center just give them the number on your carb and they will give you the correct kit. Go to smalleng.com they have a video on just this issue. Good Luck.. Craftsman weedeater will not start


The most probable problem is no fuel delivery to the engine.

1. Check/replace the fuel in-tank filter, you should be able to easily blow through it once removed. The primer bulb will sink down and not return quickly if the filter is bad. Fuel will not return to the tank via the return line if the fuel filter doesn't allow fuel to be pulled in.

2. If fuel is returning to the fuel tank when the primer is pushed then your problem is inside the carb.

3. To verify this put a small quantity of gas in the lid of a water bottle (half full). And pour it into the carb throat. Replace the air filter to prevent a backfire from shooting flames out. Try to start the weedwacker. If it runs and then dies the problem is inside the carb.

4. If you are really good at working on things with small parts you can clean out the carb and replace all of the gaskets to solve the problem. If this isn't for you then you should take it to a lawn shop and have them clean the carb and replace the gaskets.

NOTE: Replacing the gaskets is very important because the gaskets get stiff and the fuel pump action of one of the gaskets is reduced or stopped.

My featherlite weedeater will only turn up on half choke?


you have to adjust the h or highend carb screw. start up your engine on full choke adjust the screw up or down untill u can run it without choke
