Question about Whirlpool GH9185XL Microwave Oven

1 Answer

F7 code on Whirlpool Microwave model GH9185XLT - 1

We have a Whirlpool microwave model GH185XLT-1 model, 1100 watts, manufactured in 2002. After we enter the time and press starts, it goes for a short while and then stops displays -F7- on the display. What does this mean?

We've turned the breaker off and on a couple times, still, same problem.

I did notice that our power went off and then on this morning. Could that have anything to do with it?

Is this fixable or do we need to look for a new microwave

How CAN i TEST MY MICROWAVE?

Most common cause of an F7 code on these models is a bad inverter or magnetron. Generally it is best to replace both the magnetron and the 1100 watt inverter board at the same time, since a bad magnetron is usually what burns out the inverter board.

We have a whirlpool GH5184XPS-4 microwave that we are getting an F7 error on. We removed control panel and parts of the board were scorched. we resoldered in loose parts still have smae problem

From the technical sheet usually located behind the control panel or grille:

F7 Power to magnetron interrupted

1. Check the door, hinge and cavity front alignment. Adjust as needed.

2. Check the operation of all interlock switches.

3. To check the over-temperature protection for the magnetron, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.

4. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.

5. If this solves the problem, check the cooling fan for proper operation or blockage.

6. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.

7. Check resistance of the magnetron thermostat. It should be close to 0 ohms. If necessary, replace magnetron thermostat.

8. Check that the control cable to the 1100 watt inverter is correctly connected to plug P2 on the display PCB. If necessary, adjust or reconnect.

9. If interlock switches operate correctly, replace 1100W inverter.

10. If problem persists, replace electronic control.

11. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
