No volume/sound on Dell Inspiron. I don't have installation disks. It had been working fine for years.

Likely not the driver, if you didn't do a recent reinstall of windows. More likely is that the speaker wires have sheared apart. Easy way to check:
1)Pop off cover at top of keyboard the says Dell and has power button (use small flat object, i.e. a knife, on left side and pry up) 2) Look for two pairs of connected black and white wires that runs up into the screen on right side 3) Check if said wires are worn/severed
Ethos - I am an IT guy for a company that is selling their used stock of these and have seen every single one have at least some indication of wear at this point and many have been completely severed.

Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop with FN Volume issues.

Starbug1S1- This may have been something you have already checked but I will suggest anyways. You said you had control of your sound from other means - Sounds and Audio Devices properties was one- did you notice a check box that reads Place volume icon on the task bar. This may remedy part of your problem if you put a check in the box. Hopefully this helps. Thanks.

Laptop speakers not working

Hi you can try this:

From Start, go into Control Panel, then select Sounds, Speech & Audio devices, then Sounds and Audio Devices again.

On Volume tab, click on Advanced. Now choose Laptop stereo speakers. This may sort out the problem. Try the other options if they still don't work.

Dell Inspiron 710m laptop speakers no sound,

Chances are that the wires connecting the speakers to the main board have been cut. The same thing happened on my 710m, I no longer have any sound and have been trying to figure out how to get replacements, I've found a few on Google, but have some apprehension about opening up the whole thing and replacing them.
Hope yours is just a driver problem.

Inspiron 6000 sound

Hi,

Don't worry. It could be that the sound drivers are not instaled. Simply download the drivers from support.dell.com by entering the service tag. The sound should be back. The battery has nothing to do with sound. From the same website, install the BIOS update. That shoule get the battery message go away. Incase that does not happen, then you may have to buy a battery. The batteries have 1 year of warranty from the date of invoice.

I work in DELL, so please try what I ahve mentioned and you should be happy!!! If not, post a message.
