Question about Goodman CPLE24-1 Air Conditioner

2 Answers

I have a Goodman Package unit Model # PGJ 03075-1. The blower motor only rocks back and forth while the compressor and fan run and begin to form frost on the pipes. I replaced the large capacitor, main control board, fan control board, thermostat, and removed the control module off the back of the ECM motor to look for burned areas. There are no visible burned areas. Any ideas on what to check next? Rick

I have tried to get the blower started by rotating the blades by hand and it won't start.I have checked the wiring diagram and there is only one run capacitor in the system. Also verified with the parts dealer.I replaced this with a new one.
Is there a way to check the ECM motor?

I think the GE ECM motors do convert the AC power to DC. Is there a way to test the motor for this?
I did replace the main control board.
Where would this rectifier be located?
    Thanks,
    Rick

I don't have any test equipment. If i did, how would you check a rectifier in the middle of a very complex main control board?

Don't you think a brand new control board would rule out any problems with components on the board?

Yes, the motor was acting like this so I replaced the main control board. I was hoping for some help to diagnose the problem before replacing the $800.00 motor.

The blower motor only rocks back and forth ? That means it is getting power. Most of these have their own smaller capacitor did you check it? Any sloppy vertical movement means the motor bearings are shot, the motor is what we call in the business "Polling out" and motor replacement is needed. Thats all the smart pills I have.

Is there a capacitor on this motor that you may have missed?it sounds like its trying to start, can you try to manually hand start the fan by spinning the blade and if it then runs,it sounds like you have a defective motor start capacitor somewhere in the unit

is it possible its a D.C. voltage operated motor and your getting A.C. voltage supplied to the motor due to a shorted rectifier in the control system, this would cause a problem such as this

  • danny Hendrickson Apr 24, 2010

check the motor connections for D.C. current then go back to the ecu and trace the wires from the motor to the controller board and check the rectifiers on this board

  • danny Hendrickson Apr 24, 2010

you will need a multi-meter or ohmmeter to check each diode for a front to back resistance you should read a high resistance and then reverse the leads on the diode connections you should get a lower resistance this way, make sure one end of each diode is disconnected from the board when doing this so your not getting false readings from other components in the circuit

was your motor act like this before you replaced this control board, if so then i would suggest replacing thee motor now

I have a 3 ton Payne heat pump package unit . The indoor fan motor has a built in capacitor. The fan motor will not turn, it just rocks back and forth making a beeping noise.

If the fan spins by hand (be careful as it may start spinning) i would suspect the capacitor, however the motor could be bad. If you have a dvm and know how to safely check the capacitor then do so.

Why does the compressor on my goodman package unit turn on and off before completing a cycle while the condenser fan runs?

Two most common issues are a bad run capacitor or the compressor is over amping due to bad bearings.

Goodman package heatpump blower motor contant running

check your themostat fan mode switch to see if it in on or auto. It should be in auto. If this does not stop indoor fan motor, (it may take up to 2 minutes for the fan to stop, preprogrammed shutoff in the thermostat and fan control cards may make you think the fan has not stopped ) If this does not stop the fan the fan control board in your air handler has a green wire shorting to 24 volt signal in the theromostat wire or the contact on the blower control card is stuck and will need replaced.

My goodman split system AC unit is running but the fan won't run even when I switch it to fan on thermostat. Any ideas please?

Did you notice if there was a click at the blower cabinet when you were switching the fan switch back and forth? If it clicks you probably have a bad fan motor. If it doesnt you may a bad thermostat, relay or relay board. Hope this helps good luck

Goodman heatpump fan runs, condenser wont start

Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.

My Goodman ac unit is still running but it just feels like the fan not ac. We don't know the problem but guessing the dual Air conditioning/heat Pump (CapacitorGSC130421AC) is bad. Please advise! Thank you...

If the fan motor on the outside condensing unit is running, but the compressor is not coming on, then yes, most of the time it is just a capacitor. It could also be the compressor has a short or bad valves. If the compressor comes on in the beginning, but shuts off while the fan motor is still running, then you could have a low/high charge, and the unit trips the internal overload switch because it overheats. Hope this helps.

Goodman A/C won't cool

Fan motor or capacitor has gone out. Running the unit with the motor not running can cause damage to your compressor

Blower motor wont start

Every air conditioner is equipped with at least two motors, the compressor and the fan motor. It is possible for the fan motor to be defective and the compressor to be running. If this is the case the unit will appear to be running and may even sound "normal" but no air is blowing out the front or back of the unit. If, after removing the cover of the unit you discover the fan blade is very stiff and difficult to rotate, the fan motor should be replaced. If the fan blade turns freely the circuit powering the fan motor will require electrical troubleshooting. It may be necessary to have a qualified technician locate the cause of the problem, which may be either a problem with the capacitor, the selector switch or the motor itself.

Inside blower not starting every time

You have a voltage bleed somewhere or a short, whatever you want to call it. Do you have a control board on this unit where the relays are integrated into it or do you have the old type where the relay is separate? Anyway, you need to take a meter and take voltage readings to the motor when it's acting up and when it's running right. I have had the same problem with a Goodman unit before and it turned out to be the tstat! What I would do is remove the cover off the tstat and take a small jumper wire and touch the r terminal to the y terminal. If the motor starts right up, you know it's the tstat. If you have the same problem, then the only thing it can be is a low voltage short to the unit from the tstat, bad control board if you have one, or a bad relay. But if the unit is working fine in heat, it's probably not the relay. I hope this helps.
