There is probably a ball joint connection that broke, or something could have just came loose. Not a hard repair, if you are not mechanically inclined, any mower shop can fix it, or if you have a neighbor that works on cars etc can fix it easily.

Sounds like the tie rod has came loose or broke, look for a rod that connects the working wheel to the steering and then compare it to the non working side and you will be able to see what is missing

I just bought a Poulan PR550N21RH3 Rotary Lawn Mower. The first time I used it it worked fine. While I was mowing the second time I heard a big "POP" then it began to shimmy. What should I do?

check the blade to make sure its on securely and isnt bent or broken.

If something went wrong other than blade damage I would take it back and ask for a replacement.

Craftsman Lawn tractor - When turning to the left the Left front wheel turns much farther then the right front wheel does on a hard right turn. Almost perpendicular to the tractor. Busings are brand new....

I've noticed this on other Craftsman and MTD mowers. The ones with the one main steering rod from the steering wheel to the left wheel and a connecting rod from the left wheel to the right wheel. I think that since we are advised to mow in a counter-clockwise direction, they design the mowers to turn tighter towards the left. It's in the design just like you suspected.
