Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T1 Digital Camera

SONY DSC-T1 faulty image

My SONY DSC-T1 has developed a nasty problem, vertical stretching of the image and different shades about half way up screen which move when light source is changed, is it dead or can the s/w be loaded at home ? This camera has been superb throughout its 3 year life. Has anyone got any ideas ? By the way the replay image of some pictures taken before the fault developed are as normal, perfect.

I have the exact same problem. The image is stretch vertically and a distinctive line near the middle of the screen. Otherwise all the functional are normal. images are totally distorted and unrecognizable.

I have learned that this is aknown fault of a batch of CCD's. Sony posted the following

Notice to owners of Sony Digital Still camera
    24 November 2006

Thank you for your support and patronage of Sony and Sony products.

Last year in October 2005 we issued a notice offering an extension of the free of charge repair service for certain digital still cameras that incorporated Sony-manufactured image sensor devices which exhibited the following condition:

When the digital still camera is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder will show either a distorted image or no image.

We have now discovered that in addition to the models covered by the announcement made in October 2005, 8 further Digital Still Camera models (DSC-T1, DSC-T11, DSC-T3, DSC-T33, DSC-U40, DSC-U50, DSC-F88, DSC-M1) may suffer from the same condition, although such condition is more common in regions where there are climate conditions of high temperature and humidity. In an effort to ensure customer satisfaction, we are therefore extending our free of charge repair service to these models.

Accordingly, customers who have a Sony Digital Still Camera that is a covered model listed below and that is experiencing this problem should contact the call centre (details below) to arrange free repair. Please confirm the model number by referring to your warranty card or the label affixed on the product.

    Affected Digital Still Camera models:

I went to the link in solution #2; It appears that Sony will repair my camera for $20 S&H. The link also provides a verification test using the movie function. BUT THE OFFER EXPIRES 3/31/2010. === It has come to our attention that a limited number of products, manufactured before March 2004, and incorporating a certain type of image sensor device (CCD), may exhibit the following:

  • When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image at all.

We have determined that this only occurs in a limited number of devices, but may be accelerated if they are exposed to hot and humid environments.
Until March 31, 2010, Sony will repair, free of charge, the following product models exhibiting the above-mentioned symptom where it is caused by the image sensor device:
  • DSC-F717
  • DSC-T1

Hi!
It's a faulty CCD - a very common problem with the T1. You can buy the CCD at
