Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

Vista wil not boot .. screen says no bootable device

Get into Bios and
1. check if the computer can "see" your hard disk,2. check if the bootable device is the hard disk.
If these options are ok and problem still exists maybe our hard disk is damaged or bad connected.

Unbooting issues

>> PXE ROM, check cable etc
>> "no bootable device found insert cd to boot from cd"

Your computer has a list of devices to _try_ to "boot" (start-up):
* 3.5' diskette
* USB device
* USB-connected external CD-ROM
* your C: drive
* the internal CD/DVD
* over the network, if your computer's network-port is connected to a network-accessible boot-server.

So, the error-message means that either:
* the "order" of devices _excludes_ your C: drive
* your C: drive is "dying" -- and does not _always_ respond
* the tiny battery on the computer's motherboard is "dying", and it's "forgetting" the BIOS settings, including the fact that the C: drive is available.

When you enter BIOS-setup, your computer "finds" your C: drive, and everything works fine, even when restarting.

So, first get a qualified technician to replace the battery on the motherboard.

>> my battery backup is decreasing

This is an _independent_ problem -- the battery is not recharging as quickly as when it was new, and it does not hold a charge for as long as it does when it was new. Replace it, if you need to frequently use the computer via battery-power.

When I restart my computer (vista) it does not reboot with my external hard drives plugged in.

Most likely your BIOS is set to search for bootable external drives/devices. This causes the computer to pause indefinitely.

To fix this, you will need to change your BIOS boot settings.

It is simple enough and danger free so long as you make sure you keep your harddrive as a bootable device.

To fix:
1> Enter the BIOS by restarting the computer and waiting for a display to show up before windows starts - it will either be a graphical display or text, but should say "press F8" to enter BIOS. I use F8 merely as an example, as that is what mine uses - it can be different for you.
1.1>If you cannot see it quickly enough, simply press the "Pause" button on the keyboard - this will cause the boot process to stop until you press another key, and will allow you to see which key is required to be pressed to enter the BIOS.
2> Since I do not know what BIOS or motherboard you are using, I cannot give exact names for what you will need to navigate to in order to find the settings, but in general it will be BIOS Features, Advanced BIOS features, etc.
2.1*> In Award BIOS it will be under Advanced BIOS Features.
2.2*> Whatever category they fall under, they will be named something like "First boot device" "Second boot device" "Third boot device" etc, and possibly "Boot Other Device" or "LAN BOOT" etc.
2.3> Once you have found these settings, DO NOT change the setting which has a value of "Hard drive" or "HDD." If it has settings named "Boot from USB" "Boot Other Device" or something along the lines of "Third boot device: USB" then you should disable those. Anything relating to Boot and which are not CD/DVD or HDD/hard disk should be set to "Disabled" or "None."
2.4*> These changes can be reversed any time, and any mistakes with the booting priority can be fixed by simply reversing the settings (the BIOS will probably allow you to set everything to Default and that ought to fix it if anything is messed uo as well.)
3> Hit Esc to get out of the category and navigate over to "Save and Exit Setup." This will save the changes and restart the computer.
4> Your problem should be fixed, and USB devices plugged in during reboot should not effect the boot process. However, if the problem continues, please reply that it did not work and I will move on to the next possibility.
