Question about Asko W6021 Front Load Washer

Not just your ordinary pintrap drain problem

Asko W6021, purchased summer 2003...machine won't drain. Pin trap is clear, I've pulled out the pin trap cover and let the machine finish the spin and drain into a bucket and the little plastic thing at the back (what is this called?) is still spinning and pump sounds like it is running, though not draining, I tried running a very hot cycle in case there was sludge or something, but nothing. When the machine is on drain a very tiny trickle is coming out of the outlet hose. However, this occurred immediately after two very successful (completely drained) washes, so is a sudden blockage of the outlet hose likely?
I am not mechanically knowledgeable so I need non-technical language on how to solve this/ identify parts/ etc.

I do have the manual. I went and tried but could not get any of the paddles out as described for this process (the screw driver in the center hole did not help me in moving the paddle over so that they could slide out.) I'll have someone else try to see if it is just me, but suggestions are welcome

I have checked between the drum and outer container. There is nothing blocking the drain hole that I can see or feel (I looked with a flashlight.) There is residue build up on the small hole to the side of the larger one but this does not appear to be blocking it.

Thanks; we got this resolved the old fashioned way... calling the appliance guy. I could not figure out exactly how to do what was suggested or which parts you were describing, though I think you were right... what he told us was that because there are no coins as small as dimes in Sweden, dimes occasionally get past the impeller into the outlet drain, which then is a continuous line to where it drains into the soil pipe. Sure enough; three dimes were found... luckily not too far along the line! All set.

I attempted to rate tech17's solution as inappropriate, (read: not useful and kind of obnoxious) but it didn't come across that way. greendude's solution was actually a solution, though I could not figure out on my own how to do it (my own problem). I am in the united states; read more carefully... I said they don't have coins as small as dimes in Sweden. Since that is where Askos are made, the traps don't catch them.

Thanks greendude! That was exactly the problem, A US dime was stuck right in that spot. Now the machine works great again!

Check to see if there is a small coin in the grey drain hose that joins the pump also see if theres a coin stuck in the black sump hose to the pump.you will have to remove the front panel first.two screws underneath the front a one under the soap drawer.the paddles pull out put small screwdriver in the middle hole and pull hard toward you, they will come out also blow through drain hose to see if somthing stuck coins act like a valve and cause inttermittent draining problems, also check pump impeller isnt damaged it may look ok(white).hope this helps.

well sorry jessepcl but i didn't see greendudes post when i replied to you i thought you were saying that you lived in sweden and had smaller dimes there this is a world wide site and most of the time people dont post their locations and it makes it difficult to help them as most of us are doing this for free you said that you had checked the pin trap so the next logical place to look for the kind of problem you were having was the tub drain hole for a foreign object blocking it some times and not others didn't mean to sound obnoxious or disrespectful in any way i thought you were saying you lived in sweden when i replied to you

We have a pin trap problem. The outer cover comes off exposing a plastic white facing that will not budge. There is constantly a rotten egg smell coming form the washing machine. I've drained the hose...

Here's How:
  1. Exterior
Wipe down the exterior of the washing machine with vinegar or your favorite all-purpose cleaner.

  2. Tub
Pour two cups of vinegar or lemon juice into the tub, and run the washing machine through a complete cycle on the hottest setting to remove odors, stains and detergent build up.

  3. Lid/Door
Scrub around the edge of the lid/door with vinegar to remove mildew and detergent build up.

  4. Bleach and Fabric Softener Dispensers
Remove the bleach and fabric softener dispensers, and scrub them in the sink. Then, dry them thoroughly and return them to the machine.

Tips:
  1. To prevent mildewing, leave the lid open after you finish a load to allow the washing machine to dry out.
  2. Commerical fabric softeners leave build up in the machine. of choice, and the inside of your washing machine won't need to be cleaned as frequently - if at all.

Tip

Asko W6021 would not fill with water

Our W6021 front has had a couple of instances where it would not start the fill cycle as usual. Normally it would be switched on,the relay would operate and the water would begin to enter the bowl. We tried a number of things including checking the hose and inlet filter for blockage. We then checked the outlet drain pump trap and found a coin and a drill bit lodged in the entry hole to the trap. Once the foreign objects were removed ,the machine operated as normal once again. I will be very careful in future to empty my pockets of metal things.

My Asko W6021 washer doesn't run. The power light glows when the power button is on. When I press the start button the machine "clicks" twice after a few seconds but does not start. I replaced the fuses...

The question being incomplete I think you mean the motor is not turning , so check the output to the motor after the water flows in, if there is no action of the inlet water coming in , filling and voltage to motor, then the program controller is faulty. If voltage comes to motor but does not run then it canbe the motor , check the capacitor if this of the capacitor running.

Water doesn't drain

you could have a bad drain pump.
have you checked the hoses that come from the bottom of the tub to the drain pump for anything that might be stuck in there, also check the hose that comes off the drain pump to the wall and look for an obstruction.

Cleaning the Pin Trap

I also had this problem. Here is what I did. When the white cover comes off, it exposes the white circular facing. That's ok, once we get the pin trap out, the cover snaps back on. What has happened is that the pin trap is so full (of money in my case) that it is jammed. The facing has an indentation, but you can't get a grip on it with something like pliers because pliers squeeze, they don't spread. I found a tool at the hardware store called "chain pliers" that when you squeeze them, the jaws spread. There were multiple indentations on them, the first set were pretty thin and I was afraid I'd break the plastic lip on the facing. So I cut the tips of the chain pliers off with a hack saw. Once I got a grip on the facing, I jiggled it in and out until it released.

Water constantly in pin trap

I had this problem and found out there was something stuck in the drain hose.  It also made my clothes smell sour.  Unhook your drain hose stretch it out straight, run water through and maybe snake it if need be.

W620 Drain Hose Goes Where??

The little black hose in the pin trap compartment gets hooked onto the round pin on the door of the pin trap access, that little hose is a bypass hose from the pump inlet

Front drain plug

I have similar issues with my Asko W660. Once it was a key stuck between the inlet to the pin trap and the trap itself. I got it out by jiggling and poking into the trap area with a narrow strip of plastic. Mostly, though, it just requires a stronger grip on the door to the pin trap--the little handle is slippery, and hard to get a good grip on. Try making a grip out of a piece of duct tape, or grabbing the handle with pliers.
