Sears Lawn Tractor - Smoking Badly

I have a Sears Lawn Tractor with B&S engine (31c707 type 0230-e1) that's smoking badly. I believe the fuel is leaking into the oil causing the problem. I've read that the fuel solenoid could be the problem. Can this be repaired or does it need to be replaced? Thanks

it will fit between the carby and the head
mostly is made of bakelite and is a device to stop the temperature of the head from transferring into the carby and boiling off the fuel
there should be a gasket either side of it

Smoking off & on badly , now can hear a tap-nock ? in motor .

Did you ever change the oil? If is still under warranty I would call Sears. It could be a factory mistake. If you are talking about a riding mower it could need a valve adjustment. This is a common problem on Briggs. Need more info to tell you for sure

My Sears tractor has white smoke pouring out of it right after starting. It is fairly new,, some 217 hours on it.

Answer to your question is this,if this keeps up smoking,i would check the carburetor fuel filter, for signs of gas collected up in the filter. If there gas you need to adjust the carburetor,by adjusting the fuel mixture. The carburetor uses both fuel and air mixture. To much fuel(Rich) floods the carburetor, too little fuel(Lean),there is more air than fuel. You will have adjust the carburetor's needle valve to receive the correct balance between the two. To do this check the carburetor for a slotted screw, take a screwdriver. Turn the screw in to get a lean mixture, turn screw out to get a rich mixture. After making your adjustment, start the tractor,if not already running. Watch to see if it is still smoking,if it is, adjust the needle valve screw in more until the smoking stops, also keep watch on the filter for gas,in the filter assembly. This is not where your gas needs to be. I need to inform you to also,to be sure that the air filter is cleaned up(No Gas Accumulation in the filter) -This is a must do to possibly, keep from having a (FIRE). When making fuel adjustments,i would check the spark plug(s) for carbon deposit building up,that would cause the motor not to start,or run smoothly. Anyway,be SAFE,your dealing with GAS. I replaced the cutting belt (obtained at sears) on my 19.5 HP Craftsman tractor and the belt is smoking. What normally causes the smoking to take place?

also make sure you have the belt on correctly and all pullys will spin freely . also check the guide bars ( if equipped ) are not rubbing the belt when its under tention . signs of smoke means the belt is not able to spin free like it needs to . most of the time its something simple that has been over looked ...

I have a craftman 42 inch silver lawn tractor and would like to change the oil what typpe do i use

Briggs & Stratton engines use 48 ounces of SAE 30 oil & Kolher engines use 2 quarts of 10w30 oi. Be sure not to over fill the engine will smoke like a banshee!! Verify the level with the dipstick. Oil can be gotten from Sears or from your favorite auto parts store.

Briggs and Stratton 22hp v twin OHV smoking badly

First thing to do is pull your dipstick and check for broken or missing O-ring also as you pull it, look to make certain that it was seated properly and all the way locked. If either condition exists, you will be leaking into the crankcase which will cause your symptoms
