First, make sure that the dishes aren't rattling around inside the washer. Believe it or not, your Kenmore Front Load Washer user's manual will have instructions on the proper procedure for loading it.

Unplug the washer if possible and, when it's dry and empty, remove the bottom cart to look at the drain port near the back of the washer's interior. Sometime food scraps or silverware can get lodged in the port's mouth and rattle around every time the washer runs. The only time you should ever need to call a repairman about this problem is if the noise only occurs at the start of the wash cycle and makes a low thumping noise or a rapid-fire clicking noise. These are both indicators that the inlet valve is broken and needs to be swapped out for a new one.

Its your inner tub bearing that is causing the problem,it is going bad and will continue to do so. You have to buy the whole inner tub in order to get a new bearing or you could have someone press it out and find the part number to replace it with.

I have a kenmore front load washer model 970-c42072. I'm experiencing a loud noise in the drum on the spin cycle even when it is empty no matter what setting (slow normal fast) What would be the...

If you turn the inner wash drum by hand, what kind of noise do you hear? If it is a thumping kind of noise, it would mean that the spider support arms are broken. If the noise is a loud rumbling sound, similar to a jet engine when it is spinning, it would mean that you have a bearing seal failure and the bearings need to be replaced. Either problem is a big job to fix since the entire washer needs to be taken apart. Get a few estimates before deciding whether it is worth fixing. Sorry.

Loud banging noise during spin cycle of my front loading kenmore

If you spin the drum by hand, does it make any kind of thumping or banging noise? If it does, then you probally have a broken spider arm(s). This is very expensive to repair, unless you are handy, it may not be worth fixing. The link below shows the problem and how it can be fixed.

check and make sure the washer is LEVEL otherwise when in spin, it may "walk" across the floor. also if it's not level then the tub will "tilt" in one direction and may contribute to the thump, thump.

Kenmore spin cycle thumping noises

I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!
