My dryer Start Switch will turn on and hum but will not keep the dryer running. Could this be only the start switch and is it simple to change?

Unfortunately it is not the start switch that causes these symptoms. It is the drive motor itself.

The motor is pretty difficult to replace on this unit but if you have a lot of time, patience and mechanical ability you can do it. The cost of a GE dryer motor is about $175.00

The start switch has to be continually pressed to get my dryer to work

Your motor has start and run windings, start windings for a high torque start and run windings to keep it turning, either there is a fault in the wiring or in the motor its self, depending on the dryer it may have a centrifugal switch to change windings and could be as simple as needing a clean of the contacts.

This sounds like the motor is bad, or going bad...I would have someone help you try and start the door and hold the door switch in and keep holding the door switch while pushing the knob to start it and at the same time....have someone try and turn the inside drum usually, counterclockwise and see if it takes off....if it does...let go of the start switch up on console(timer),
but keep holding in on the door switch to let it run for can shut the door real fast and it should keep running... if none of this works and it still will not start and just hum...the motor is bad

The drum on my kenmore 70 series dryer won't turn and the dryer won't get heat up either. The drum will start to turn if we take the lid off and manually push it but not automatically

The dryer will not heat till the motor starts . If the dryer makes a hum when you activate the start switch' but won't start, then either the motor switch is bad or full of lint. If there is no hum then the start switch may be bad.

When i turn the on switch i hear a humming as if it is going to start but it does not. my dryer brand is Frigidaire FEQ 332 E s

Depending on the hum you hear (if you hear the sound and it keeps humming) the belt that connects the motor and the drum is probably broken.

If the hum only happens when you turn the on switch, the motor has probably failed.

GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part
