When I pick up my handset and press the skype button it says "contacts unavailable" and if someone tries to ring me either on skype or normal land line my phone do not ring. Could anyone tell me what I could do apart from throwing the phone in the garbage? Thanks!

I had a WIndows vista incompatible driver so downloaded a new driver from Philips.com and followed the instructions and whoopdiwoo it all seems to work EXCEPT that people I am calling can't hear me so I am not 100% sure what microphone it should be set to. The download said default it to the systems mic and speakers but when I made a call it was defaulting to voip phone. So all in all solved one and all my contacts coming up and still one to solve! Also haven't a clue yet how to use it as a land line phone as well.
Hi zappawo, This is impossible with the Philips VOIP321. A design flaw. You have to live with it or buy another one, like the GE/Thomson GE21878. I bought the GE with this question in mind. It took me a while to figure out but here is how I am able to dial out from skype to a hardline to a person not in my skype contact. Simply start to dial the number (not from the talk button!!!) then instead of hitting the talk button to dial, hit the skype button on the bottom left hand side. I also have to dial 001 then the phone number. Hope this works for you too. good luck.
The problem has been solved .. . thank you . The hand set had in fact been somehow un registered from the 'Sender ' . I looked up how to register the hand set ( no way would I have thought of holding down the page button on sender for a few seconds , actually until it starts to flash and then you have (via the menu ) to get the hand set into register mode ( you will need your PIN no. if you changed it from factory default ! If you haven't changed it then factory default is ' 0000' ) . . . punch that in to the hand set and then bingo , they are in touch again . . . .
It took HOURS to get it right . . . I tried removing CIT200 and Skype and then reload into computer . . . and I'm not sure now if I have the upgrade or not of CIT200 . . . this morning had the on going problem of phone saying ' unavailable ' and the only way out of this is to reboot my computer . . . that mostly works ! Apart from these BIG niggles the system is clear and good when all configured . . . NOT found the answer to the Niggles yet ! . . . . . ( Why no hard copy of the user manual . . . ridiculous!)
If you're running the sound test through Skype's options and you click on the make a test call option, then you won't hear anything through the handset. I had the same problem and I spent a few hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working. In the end I found out it was actually working all along.
What you need to do is add the Skype contact echo123 to your contact list. It should be the first one in the list from the United Kingdom.
Once that's done you should be able to bring it up on the contact list through Skype and initiate the call through the Handset at which point it will work properly and you should be able to speak to and hear the test call. That was the only way I was able to verify that it was in fact working properly.
DeRegister the handset and then reregister it to the base
1 ) press Reg. Register shall be highlighted. 2 ) press Page key on the base unit until the two indications turn off. If registration is successful,the signal icon displays steadily. If registration failed,repeat the above procedure.
