Question about Cowon System iAUDIO X5 MP3 Player

3 Answers

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me with my iAudio X5L, I just need a little advice. The problem is that when I switch it on, I can't select any track. If I push the selector up or down to scroll the song list it simply begins to scroll it without stopping, quicker and quicker, and no action is possible anymore. I can't even switch it off, the only thing is to reset. After saving everything, I formatted and updated the firmware with the last release I found on the web, for I assume it's a software, not hardware, issue. But it didn't solve anything. I may be wrong, but I need to know now if there is a more effective way to completely reset the operating system and installing it again, so that, if it doesn't work still, the only chance is to search for some hardware assistance (or for a new player...). Thanks a lot for your help!

Thanks mate. However I don't think the button gets stuck, simply because the display light usually keeps on if you keep the button pushed, and in my case the light softens and eventually gets off as no button were touched. But I will try to open and look into it, and let's see what comes out. Thanks again.

Thanks, but it's out of warranty by now. It's 3 years and a half old, and it was also purchased on the web... :(

Hey,

Unfortunately, reprogramming - updating the firmware, is the deepest that you can go, software side.

So this is definitely a hardware issue, is the button broken or getting stuck? you would have to open the player and take a look - only if your outside of warranty.

If you are in warranty get it warranty repaired.

How to take apart a phone or a mp3 player?

I wrote this guide for a phone earlier http://www.fixya.com/support/r4333266-samsung_sgh_x150_disassembly_apart

All you need is a set of small screwdrivers, your fingernails or a plastic stick.

find all the screws and remove, them, check under any labels or soft objects.

then the last thing to do is to use your fingernails or a plastic stick to go around the casing to get it pop off, it is most likely held in place with plastic clips.

now even if you do get it apart, I can't guarantee that we can fix this, you can look at the buttons and see if its getting stuck. But it might be very much more complex than that.

If you formatted the memory and reinstalled the firmware this is all you could do in this matter ..This means that it is a issue of hardware ..infact it is probably just the contact for the up and down button ...orsomething like that or related...Im sorry to give you these news but in what concern software this is all...probably you can try to flash it and reinstall the firmware again and not just a update ...look for the original one ...and try to reinstall it ...but ,,,I give it a 50 % chance to be from it ..
When I started to read..my first thought was the blocked button ...or ..function of the button ..

Mav1983,

I suggest taking it back to the purchase place (with receipt, and still under warranty) and exchange it. It almost sounds like there is a defect in the unit itself (not the software).

I am positive they can run a diagnostics on it as well, if applicable or available, however if you are still within your time limit of warranty I would highly suggest replacing it.

Please let me know if this is helpful and let me know if you need any further assistance with this matter.

Cordially,

DOSES MY IAUDIO PLAY VIDEO

Yes it does, but the screen is small and the playback rate (15 frames per second) is slow for a fast action movie.

If you really want a video player with the same audio quality as the X5L, then take a look at the A2 from Cowon.

Dropped iaudio X5 and it wont turn on

i found out a problem with it, i had the same problem if u have rockbox on their, u got to get rid of it, when it turns on plug the USB to the mp3 player, make sure it comes in the Drive of your computer, use a Windows XP, or any updated windows computer make sure that it's formatted into a FAT32 drive and format make sure u put the original firmware back into it, it can be downloaded from any Cowon Site, here is the steps if u want to know how to start it off Windows XP formatting instructions:
1. Connect your iAudio player to your PC's USB port and wait for it to detect.
2. Go to My Computer, click on Start then click on My Computer
3. Select the iAudio drive, then click on file and select format.
4. Click OK to format
Needs to be a FULL format and in FAT32.
after that is done, it will reset all the folders, and wipe off the hard drive and it should be back to normal, from then on it should work, if it doesn't try to use this site to request for a RMA repair service http://jetdb.jetaudio.com/RMARequest/Request.aspxand if u want to, u could try the Rockbox again if it is on it, but just know it's not fully supported by Iaudio...and ill give the Firmware link too if u want it [X5 Firmware]http://www.cowonamerica.com/download/iaudio_x5_jsfw.htmlor if it don't turn on possibily u can try to reconnect the power wire into the solder joints that should help with that issue, the power wire is red...that should help turn it on

IAudio X5 not recognised as removable drive

If there's no difference in the operating systems, or other software, a possibility is a faulty USB socket on the computer. Try another USB, or swap workstations... ;] hope it works out
