When I start my poweredge 1300 it gives option for utility mode but when I try to enter it says there is no space on my hard drive for the utility mode. what can I do to restore utility mode so that I can...

> what can I do to ... partition my hard-drive?

There is both "commericial" and "free" software that boots from a CD-R that can be used to do disk-partitioning and disk-formatting.

Search for "Partition Magic" or "Ranish Partition Manager".

It should work just like having a normal CD drive in the computer. Others who answer your question may correct me if I'm wrong, which I hope they do. However, once you plug the drive in (internal or external) you would need to make sure the comp. is compatible with the software the drive uses. Windows Media Player might work

Is there any reason I can not run the PowerEdge on its side?

Not at all, you can even use the DVD player while it's on its side.

Does Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server support DVD ROM

I am working on one of these now and yes, it should boot from DVDROM. Be aware that it is a notebook style drive and there are no onboard IDE or SATA controllers, so once the drive dies you're in for a wallet hit. Same goes for the floppy drive which is integrated with the DVDROM. Even worse, the presence of the broken floppy usually means a USB floppy drive won't help when loading windows drivers at install time.

Beeping PowerEdge 1300

When a Dell server beeps in every 3-5 second that mean it comes from Raid controller.
Dell calls PERC Controller.
It usually reason of a disk failure.

Install open manage server administrator on your server.
See which disks are failed ?

Try to run Power edge diagnostics on the failed disk.
If it passes the test reseat the disk.
if it fails disk has to be replaced with a new one.
If passes the quick test, reseat the disk and update disk + perc firmware and driver to the latest level. that will solve the problem!!

99% beeping comes from perc controller because of a failed HDD

cheers
