I have the danby designer Mod DMW162W-ORT that won`t heat at all but everything else works. Hums a bit louder but will not warm.

The Magnetron in your unit is no longer resonating properly. The Magnetron produces the microwave frequencies and when it resonates properly, it will provide the excitation to heat your item(s). As well, the diode that accompanies the magnetron needs to be replaced as well. Should it be under warranty, take it back. Out of warranty? Have an appliance tech repair it (usually around $175) or get a new microwave.

This is typical for most microwaves. No such thing as quality any more.

Not heating

If the door sensor thinks the door is ajar, it prevents the microwave from heating as a safety precaution.

I found with my old microwave that tapping on the closed door, right at the latch, with a little bit of force would convince the sensor the door was really closed.

Microwave manufactured July 2009 --- Just stopped heating. Still runs but food/drinks are ice cold no matter how long you leave them in or how high the temperature????? Everything else still works fine...

There is no temper selection per-ce. The microwave is either 'on' or 'off' as it heats. Temperature is related to time selected.

Do you frequently open the door to check the contents while the oven is running? Most people do. When you do this, you invoke the door safety interlock system. This system protects you from dangerous microwave radiation. With the door closed, there is no danger.

What's happening? When you open the door with the oven operating, you open the tiny contacts on the little micro switches that make up the safty interlock. As such, you send a spark through them, burning them a little bit. A little bit added to a little bit added to a little bit adds up to quite a bit and eventually, they fail. When they fail, they are not able to signal to the oven that the door is in fact closed. If the door is not closed (forget what you know about the door) the magnatron will not energize thus no heat. This is, in my experience, the #1 reason for a microwave to fail.

Remove your cover, find the switches and verify their proper operation with a volt/ohm meter. If you call a serviceman to do this for you, expect to pay $100.00 and up. Of course, if you dont know what a micro switch is, don't have a VOM or how to test, this will be money well spent.

Be aware, there is a device inside the cabinet that if you touch the terminals, it can seriously injure or kill. It is the small can, usually silver, that has two terms on the top. It 'stores' electricity in the thousands of volts. DONT TOUCH IT.

I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

My ifb microwave oven is getting hot outside while

Normally when u cook food in microwave the fod is cooked by microwaves, which means the heat is generated with in food. The temperature inside is never too hot and all the heat produced is absorbed with in the food.

On the other hand when the grill is switched on, a separate heatting element gets switched on. You can see this red hot element on the top side of inside of microwave. the heat from this element gets transferred to food through air circulation. But partof heat also gets transferred to the walls of microwave oven. This is the reason the wall feel hot during use of grill.

As i see ther is no problem with the microwave itself. Jut kep delicate thngs a bit away from the microwave.

Turns on but not heating food sounds a bit louder

Hi, this is common in most microwaves. this abnormal noise is coming from a faulty Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating process and, it is damaged and not heating at all at this point.Simply replace the Magnetron and, this unit will start to heat once more.

No heat - everything else works

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

My GE spacemaker microwave doesn't heat up foods. There is a slight bit of heat generated but not much. All timers, lights, etc. work normal. It is a GE model jvm1440. It is about 3 years old. The problem...

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.

Microwave, adora, stopped heating

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, on most microwave including GE Adora, no heat with all else working indicates a problem with the magnetron. Since the magnetron produces high RF energy and operates on high voltage, it would be to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional.

If on the other hand, the fault of no heat is coupled with no display, error messages, door not locking, no light, then it would be possible for a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair. All that is required is a bit of familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, the use of a DVM/VOM of course safe working practices when repairing electrically powered devices.

Pls post back any other symptoms or indicators other than 'no heat'.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

PROBLEM WITH SHARP R-1874TF CONVECTION OVEN

sometimes an over heat will shut down the oven for a little bit but lets look at other things
i dont believe the board to be bad but i do believe the heating element inside is fried or a wire got fried by heat
if you know how to use ohm tester i would check heating element and wireing first
then try to see if the timer gave out
