Question about Altec Lansing 4.1 140 WATTS SPEAKER SYSTEM (SELECT 4100) Computer Speakers

1 Answer

4100 series headphone jack only provides left channel sound

I have the 4100 series model, and in the last few weeks I believe a problem has occurred with the headphone jack on the system controller. I only get sound on the left channel. I've tried two different sets of headphones, and switching from "gaming" to "stereo x2" modes. No dice. I've made no software or hardware changes. All four extrernal speakers and the subwoofer work normally. I've checked that all cables and connections are correct and firmly seated.

SOURCE: No sound from headphones connected to speaker

I may be too simple of an answer but that would happen if the headphones weren't plugged all the way in. If there is a bend in the connector and it's hitting the speaker they may not be plugged in all the way.

Beringer Xenyx 1204fx emits a clicking sound... Sounds like a Geiger Counter for radiation in my headphones. I have used the same sound mixer in the same configurations for 3 weeks. Now I've had it...

This is likely a problem with the FX in the unit or the power to it. Does the FX display act correctly? Check that the headphone source "Main Mix" is the ONLY button down for the headphones. If not, make it so. If the clicking is still there, try the headphones in the aux send jacks... see if EITHER left or right can hear the clicking. Back in the phone jack, scan across the SOLO channel buttons down one at a time. Is there clicking? If not, the problem involves the mixing buss or further down the line. Make sure the SOLO buttons at the FX Aux sends are up.
What effect does the MODE button have in SOLO and in PFL? Is the SOLO LED off? Is the number in the FX window SOLIDLY on and not flashing?

Sp250 right outout seems to have broken and as a result there is no sound coming from the speakers on the keyboard or through the PA. If we use the left output through the PA - it works, Could you advise...

Check if headphone jack also has right channel dead... If headphones work on both channels, switch contacts on headphone jack MIGHT be the problem.

How to find JVC AV27320 headphone jack? I've plugged into the avs(red & white) in the front panel as well as the extra ones in the back. Altho - I CAN hear the sound thru the headphones, The external...

This model doesn't have a headphone jack. The only JVC TV in the series that does is the model AV-20D202. For the JVC AV-2732, use the RCA audio out jacks with an RCA to 3.5 mm adapter to connect to the headphones. The front audio jacks are audio in (for the audio from a video camera for example).

When you use any external speakers or headphones through the audio out jacks, make sure to turn off the TV speakers. Press Menu and navigate down to TV Speakers (up/down arrows). Then use the right/left arrows to select Off and then Exit the menu. Make sure you scroll the TV volume before doing this. Note: if your headphones do not have a volume control they are a bad choice for this type of audio output.

You can find the manual for the TV here: http://books.jvc.com/booklist.asp?Model=AV-27230 .

I wish that I had better news for you.

An appropriate suggestion with one caution; look for a statement on the cleaner label that it will not harm plastics. I have seen some plastics not dissolve, but crack and disintegrate, along mold lines in particular. If you find no such statement use very sparingly and try to prevent over-spray.

If you use the headphone jack a lot and your missing the audio from the speaker and one channel from the headphone jack, then it's possible that some of the headphone jack connections have broken off of the PC board. The audio goes to the speaker through the headphone jack.

Please see this link for more info and read the section about the headphone jack.

Fixed broken headphones but sound quality has plummeted

it sounds as if the wires are wired wrong . yes it is best to solder the wires.all jacks are the same, yours will be stereo i believe. is the braid attached to the earth point, the two other wires attach to the centre of the plug and the other terminal point. these are right and left.

Sound out of one speaker only

I think it's probably a damaged audio jack. If you're still in warranty, get it off to Apple. If not, you've got 3 choices;

1. Attempt to fix it yourself. I managed to get stereo again by opening the ipod up and inserting a staple in the bottom of the jack, to fit between the headphone and the ipod's audio input. This took some fiddling around, using tweezers, and will probably not last long if I take it out somewhere. I might attempt removing the audio jack and seeing if I can bend the metal connects for the right audio channel so they touch the headphone cable again. An alternative to this method would be to put some cardboard in the audio jack socket and adjusting it so that it brings the hardphones back into contact. Someone did this and posted the results on their blog, but I forgot the URL...

2. Buy a new audio jack and replace it yourself. There's an ipod repair wiki out there, and several of the replacement jack suppliers have detailed instructions. It's about 40 UK pounds for the replacement though....

3. Get someone to repair it. Expensive, about 60 quid, but perhaps worth it if you're scared of further damaging your precious beast.

Note though that there have also been issues with software updates and audio output, search the apple discussion boards for more details...
