Question about Karcher 2500 PSI Pressure Washer

Open Question

Honda GC190 no start. Unit has been sitting for 2 years. Drained old gas, cleaned the carb. No go. New plug gapped to 0.030in. Still nothing. spark seems good. Cleaned the fuel strainer and there IS a bit of vacuum at the fuel pump when cranking. Poured a dab of gas into combustion chamber.. Still won't "talk to me" AT ALL. Removed valve cover and checked the valves.. within specs and nothing sticking or hanging up. Timing belt and cam looks good. Took a peak at the coil.. air gap in specs. 1ohm on the primary but only 8.4k/ohm on secondary where manual calls for 10.6-12.8k/ohm. Bad coil ? Haven't removed the flywheel yet to check for sheared key and when looking at the magnets, they move under the coil when the piston is about 3/8in down PAST the TDC. Are these that much retarded ? Any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

SOURCE: It looks like gas getting into the crankcase oil,

here`s the go ,good possibility that you didn`t turn the gas tap off at the last time you used it.If the needle isn`t seating properly the gas wii over flowinto the carburetterif the inlet valve is open ,fuel can ,if the macine is on uneven ground run back into bthe cylinder and over a period seep into the sump. I`ve only seen it once .I am assuming it is a GX140 motor, so dont tilt it back too far or the same thing will happen with the oil and the mufler eventually gets full and it will sm oke like a forrest fire for a month. why do you say it takes longer to warm up ?is it because you have to have abit of choke for longer ?if so it is a mixture problem .and no it doesn`t need a new spark plug.

I had the same thing. Had to use Lithium grease to get it to work properly. Must take the cheesy plastic thing with the silver top off first to get at it. Only lubed the large o-ring. Works like new.

SOURCE: Low Pressure

I worked at a tool rental while attending college and had the opportunity to work on a variety of pressure washers, however, they were of the commercial type. Commercial washers are slightly different in that they usually have seperated components for easier service. Attached to the pump by fittings or rubber hose were the pressure regulator (which has the bypass unloader inside), chemical injector, pressure gauge as well as the hot water release safety all external to pump. Your pump has all these components in one case. By far the most troublesome component is the pressure regulator/unloader which when failing will result in low pressure because it will bypass water back into the intake as you suspect is happening to yours. Here are a few things to check. I believe that your pump is 2500 2.4 gpm. Test gpm water capacity by running pump normally with hose and proper tip attached. Spray water into bucket for one minute and verify that you are pumping 2.4 gallons of water (or what ever gpm your machine is rated). Measure the amount of water that your machine delivered. If it delivered proper gpm and pressure is low then problem could be worn or improper tip. The pressure is created at the tip and pressure will drop as the tip wears. As the unloader/bypass wears, water will bypass at a lower pressure. (Try lowering the pressure regulator all the way ) If water measures less than rated delivery than the machine is bypassing water due to worn regulator/bypass, checkvalves pitted, oring in front of checkvalve worn or cut or missing, or body of pump where checkvalve/oring seat is pitted allowing water to leak past valve. The cap that is removed to access checkvalve must presses against checkvalve with enough force to prevent water from leaking thru oring and body of pump. Examine checkvalves and orings with maginfy lens and look for pitting. Valves surface and orings must be very smooth and tight fitting to work properly. Body of pump where checkvalve oring snuggs against must be very smooth. Any surface where oring seats must be smooth. As water bypasses it cuts metal and orings just like a leaking faucet so look for cuts in metal and rubber. This info and my experience is better suited for larger pumps and higher pressure but maybe it will help. Good luck with your repair.

SOURCE: Honda GC 160 Engine, I had the carb replaced about

This really sounds like a carb problem, good to hear that you are taking the carb all the way off and soaking it, this is the best way to clean a carb. I don't think it would be the fuel pump, they either work or they don't. I would check the governer springs and linkages, if one of these is hung up on something it would cause the problems the you have identified. Also, when you re-install the carb make sure that you have all the gaskets installed, it is easy to forget one and that will cause the engine to **** air and make the whole engine run like ****.

Hi, Anonymous if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

Generator Won't start

Gap the plug at .030 What is most likely the main problem is whatever gas sat in the carb. Even with fresh gas there will be some old gas still in the float bowl. You may be able to drain the bowl and be OK but I have a feeling that the carb will need to come off and be disassembled and cleaned properly. You can try spraying carb cleaner (I dislike starting fluid as it is too volatile and carb cleaner does just as well in this instance) into the carb/intake. Remove the air filter, open the choke, and spray the carb cleaner in through that way if possible. You can actually keep an engine running by spraying with short bursts. Even by just spraying once you should be able to get the engine to start. If it does start but then will not stay running without spraying more into the engine then it is a carb problem.

need to check for spark---- magneto [magnet-pulse to coil] may have rust causing failed spark can clean lightly with sandpaper but more than likely u need to clean the carb-buy a rebuild kit about 10 bucks -take off carb tear apart and let soak in parts cleaner use a carb cleaner and spray all the nooks and crannys in carb rebuild replace and try firing up because more than likely the carb is completely gummed up from the old gas

You only have 2 ways to go......1. fuel .....2. spark, if your cranking your bike, first off try this. crank it with no choke . if nothing happens , take your choke pull it all the way out, now crank it.
if it fires, push choke half way in, continue to crank, it should start . If nothing happens a all .

You have to pull out spark plugs, look at them closely . Is it soaked with gas ? or is it dry as a bone ? if it is soaked with gas, clean it up and dry it off, now check your gap it should be alright
but just check it anyways if the gap is to much it will not fire inside the cyclinder, if it is closed
to much it will not fire . take your plug put it back in just the plug wire and rest it up against the
head or any metal surface, now crank your bike if it has a good blue spark your good with the
electrial check both plugs same way . Now if that is ok , then you have to move on to the fuel.
if you have new clean fuel, good , if it is old like lat years get rid of it . drain everything tank and
all of your fuel filters replace, make sure all of your lines are flowing and carb will clean them self.
give it a little bit after it starts running be gentle with let everything catch up. If it needs final

adjustment on carbs take it back to who ever rebuilt them . Good Luck

the worst thing for generator and compressors are to sit up. when you do sit them up put stabil in the gas. run it and then run the gas out of the carburator. now, make sure the gas in the tank is good and has no water or trash. check the fuel line that it is in good conditon and not plugged. pull the carberator and clean varnish out and clean jets. soak it over nite in varsol or parts cleaner. check to see if you have a low oil shut off. oil level must be correct. check your exhaust to make sure it isn't plugged. some have a little screen that get coated with carbon and won't let it exhaust.( fuel in, spark, exhaust out)

for any motorcycle to run you need three things. spark, fuel and compression. i see you've tried to get fuel and spark. if you have spark thats one down. dont pour fuel into cylinder. instead spray tiny bit of brakeclean or carb clean into spark plug hole. i have a feeling if you drained your gas after the carb clean the carb most likely sucked bad gas back up and might need cleaned again. ive seen it happen alot on ols bikes.
